Need workaround for Microsoft products
« on: January 01, 2006, 03:11:30 am »
Microsoft has hosed WinMX.  Every time I try to find a download, it closes out.  Further research reveals that Microsoft no longer recognizes WinMX and will automatically shut it down when one starts to download.

Is there any way to override Microsoft and continue to use WinMX?

Actually this has nothing to do with Microsoft (for once, LOL)
Windows just lets you send an error report to the company that owns winmx - which is no longer existent.
That's why it won't be recognised and we need the patch in the first place :)
As for the crashing I want you to do the following:

- Rename your current winmx folder to winmx2.

- Get our Patch if you don't have it already.

- Install the patch and when it asks you what windows version you have: lie to it and select Win98/Me whatever version you're running.
This will install a patched winmx 3.53 for you which should be running fine, it does for all of us.
If you want to have your settings from the other version with it just copy over all files with the extension .dat from your old folder.

- Once you're up and running please install Peerguardian and run it as well, info in these links :
