At this time I can only conect as a secondary. I use 2 ISPs at home, my cable company, Atlantic Broadband, advertised bandwidth of 5Mbs down, 256 kbps up, which use EchoLabs as its net provider and administrator (it sucks), my connection is restricted here (most of the times my dld/upls start ok, then trickle to zero, usually after 5 MB, once, however, I got what I used, and fom a T3 in the open nap, I was dld at 500KB, then, someone reset the throttling gear at ABB, and the connection got to 4KB, then to zero) Using Dan Elwel broadband test (the bullshit one of my ISP just get one to a non throttled sites and it alawys say the advertised rate), my effective bandwidth is about half the advertised for most servers I ping and dl/up test.

At work, at night, I use COVAD, 1.5 Mbps down/756 kbps Up, from this connection I've been able to provide 160 KBS up, and many happy fellows. My effective bandwidth has been almost par with the advertised bandwidth even though I use via a MIMO Wireless.

I use XP Pro, I Gig RAM from a Mobile Celeron 2.5 Laptop and an esternal drive where I store all my WinMX data. I named my computer FRANCISCO.

My curiosity is that een I am now a secondary, I have a constant badwidth loss of and average of 20KBS (probably around 70 to 80 kbs). Using TCP View I noticed that most of the traffic comes from WinMx connections. Some of the remote addresses cannot be determined via who is.

the large number of connections to port 8888 are opennap connections (8888 is the default port) - connecting that many you should see it use bandwidth for a bit as it uploads the shared files list to every server, but once they all go green it should drop out

of course whilst the connections are open there is a small amount of bandwidth exchanged to keep it alive, but that should barely be noticeable even with that many connections

try disconnecting all of those opennap connections and see if it makes a difference

failing that you can use something like netlimiter to show the bandwidth usage of each TCP connection to see where it is (there are probably other programs just to do that, but the only program i have used that shows it is netlimiter)

if you are merely looking at the number of TCP connections as an indicator of traffic levels - a single download from a web server could max out your connection but would only be 1 TCP connection, whereas thousands of idle TCP connections could use very little bandwidth - so the best measure of what is actually using the bandwidth is something that shows per connection, or per process the actual bandwidth usage rather than connection counts
