Your website indicates that the WinMX patch will work with all operating systems, but you then list only the various Windows operating systems.  What about the Apple computer operating system? I ask the question because my girlfriend just received an iMac computer for Christmas.  Will the WinMX patch work with the Mac OS X operating system? Please advise ASAP. Thanks.

Winmx was built for windows Smile
So I guess there it won't. Sad Sad Sad
But I do think that there might be some programs avaiable (like wine for linux) which will make applications made for windows compatible in Mac.

whatever you are using to run windows programs should work just fine with the patch... of course if you're wondering if any windows programs at all run on a mac then the answer is no, nothing at all will - you need to use external programs to run anything (a mac equivalent to wine, think there was a darwine for mac but i'm not sure how well maintained it is so not sure if it works on newer macs).. but if you get winmx to work then the patch should work fine

whatever you use to run it may need a configuration change to use the correct dll file or may work straight off, you'd have to just try and see (wine for example needs the dlloverride set, however the installer detects wine and makes the required change automatically... but it probably wouldn't for other equivalent programs for running windows apps)

As KM already pointed out, the patch will work wherever WinMx itself works.

On linux winmx works well with older WINE versions (up to 0.9.16, in later versions they made some changes that haven't been fixed to work with winmx yet).

WINE has been ported to MacOs, that project is called DARWINE and is almost current in versions.
I'm not sure about which versions of that will work with winmx though, i.e. if there's the same problem with the latest versions.

If someone has any informations on this please post Smile

PS: you can get WINE here:   http://www.winehq.com
and DarWINE is here:  http://sourceforge.net/projects/darwine/

At least I know you can get virtual PC programs for mac, similar to VMware so you can run Windows in that, then WinMX in that windows system, although I think that's too much hassle just to run WinMX. But at least that is possible.. heh..

if you cant get Darwine to work. considering mac OSX is unix based even though it uses a hybrid of the next step and GNU mach microkernel system its still POSIX compliant.

This means you can compile linux and unix programs on it like any other system.
There are several tutorials on installing linux apps on mac so im not going to post the steps or a link (mac users are smart so they can google. no?) but do remember to read the wine readme file by you start running configure and make ( or some equivalent like bake)

IF anyone has a mac running OSX or pure darwin and is really desperate to get winmx working ive found a few things that might come in handy.
The main problem compiling wine is that the Xserver in OSX has been hacked and busted all to pieces
Ive found this project http://oroborosx.sourceforge.net/
as well as xdarwin (also called XonX) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XonX

Both of these projects aim to bring a full x11 server to OSX.
This means you wont be able to use apples aqua but you can use any of the linux desktops
E17 twm gnome kde xfce lxde metacity sawfish ect ect.

Hope this helps and if anyone tries it report back with results

With a Quick-Reply you can use bulletin board code and smileys as you would in a normal post, but much more conveniently.
