The RSWCS Challenge
« on: November 17, 2009, 10:07:56 am »
Hi All,
ok while i been happily hosting my room with no problems,
but this has been brewing for some time i guess, as Reef keeps going on and on, telling people that RSWCS has back door commands and using a post almost a year old as evidence, its getting boring,

so here is the gauntlet being thrown down,
Reef or anyone that still thinks there are backdoor commands in RSWCS come to se me in The Castle, i will open a test room,
this test room will be like my castle, hosted on RSWCS1.9.4.4 and will be a standard config like my castle,

The Challenge:
show me the backdoor commands are still there, show me you can kick me and everyone out, show me you can crash the room, show me you can destroy my config,

The Outcome:
if you CAN, i will will talk to the people i know with RSWCS to use a safer server, and also talk with richy

if you CAN NOT bring down my room with your backdoor commands, then it would be time you stop living in the past,
i dont want to see 1 more post of backdoor commands or hackware as someone has been branding it,
i dont want people going round scaring hosts and saying dont use it its hackware, and yes i know it goes on, ive been told, and i dont need to name names, you know who you are.

so this is easy, prove it or stop sneaking into rooms scaring ppl into using WCS.

I will come forward and say that I was one of those that suggested RSWCS not be used because of some past issues. I have not recently suggested anyone use just one server. I suggest to everyone to try them all out, and pick the one you like best.

I would not mind using RSWCS, however, I will need to see the source before I do. I am not saying that it still has these in there, but I already had some problems with someone putting stuff in their software, and I am being extra careful.

Thanks Omega, i knew it wasn't you going round rooms, its a minority that still do.

i have tried all of them, i liked eagle's alot, its very stable, i like the extra customisations of rswcs though and has been rock steady for me except the 1st version, its improved alot.

Exactly... it doesn't matter if these commands are still present or not.. what does matter is that they once DID!
How anybody could trust using a server that DID once contain malicious commands, has got to have rocks in their head as far as i'm concerned. The commands were found and made public and richy ran to release a fixed version "that day" as u said Max, because he knew he had been caught. You might think "oh thats the past" well i'm sorry the past says a lot , and for the safety of current and future hosts i would never recommend that server.
Personally i'm not interested in your little challenge, as i said, the fact that they once existed is reason enough to steer clear of it.
"nuff said?"

Yes I think enough has been said on it. Maxe you have asked reef to try and reef has declined. I honestly don't like the server because of past issues with it's recoder and the backdoor commands that were in it. There is no way of knowing now without seeing the source and I would imagine Richy isn't letting anyone at that. Now I have seen you two go at it previously in other threads and if you still want to do that that's fine. Go and find another forum to do it in though. Do not do it in this thread or anywhere else on the forum please. Let's not let this go anywhere past an honest and mature discussion between two people who know how to be adults ok. And that's me asking nicely.
When you wake up each morning always try to remember tomorrow is never your option, it's God's. Love like you want to. Live like you aren't afraid. And ALWAYS try to remember that even if it seems personal it's never as important as something you may have forgotten to do today.

Hi Nooks,
i only posted here because i was giving ppl the opportunity to come and try the server out,
i was hoping it would stop the scandle & arguments once and for all, but looks like it wont,

ppl will still go round rooms trying to make them use wcs and telling them rswcs isnt safe, i dont think that is fair, i dont tell ppl other servers are dangerous,
i play fair & everyone has a choice,

im sorry i tried to set the record straight, im not going to argue or have a yelling match here, i'll ignore the "others" hoping they ignore me,

feel free to lock this thread before the "others" attack it again,

thank you.

Max, perhaps this point too, is valid: You issued the challenge to Reef, but mebbbe Reef dont have the key to that backdoor. One person put the backdoor in, he has the key, and no-one can know for sure, if that backdoor is still there and not just merely boarded up or papered over.

Hi Bluey,
maybe you're right, i dont know,

but what got to me was, a small group of ppl going round saying its dangerous, its hackware, it has backdoors, dont use it, use wcs

that still ongoing, because ppl have mentioned it to me,

yet wehn i say ok try crashing my room, they have the mouth to tell ppl irs hackware and to use wcs, but no balls to back up their gob,
im not talking about Nooks or Omega, im talking about the ppl who go round scaring hosts & saying dont use that  use wcs, reminds me of desperate salesmen from the phone companies.

i have never bashed a server like that, i would hep ppl on any of the servers, not just one.
i got no more to say as they got no balls.

Why should anyone trust a programmer who has previously installed a backdoor in a server along with a message to taunt the host who trusted hm ?

The answer is you shouldnt and much as you may like using such a chat server Max we in good faith cant recommend it for others to use, I,m disappointed you are taking advantage of certain folks being banned from here to start this topic and use this forum to advertise something we will not support , I will allow you to reply once more and the topic will then be locked.

GS i was not taking advantage of banned ppl, i was attacked in another thread, so i stated come and show me if you think the backdoors still exist, or stop spready nasty rumours scaring hosts, but nobody offered to take me up on the offer, they prefer to scare other hosts in rooms.

sorry if i disappoint you, but i dont tell ppl something is bad, i just wanted the attacking of me & the server to stop, looks like it never will.

Even if the backdoors are removed, there is ways around to add a few security holes in the server. Maybe he created some sorts of protocol that can be accessed only by a custom bot and if he send that protocol, it will crash the server. Because of that, this is possible that the commands to crash the room doesn't exists. In the first time Richy added those commands, he wasn't experimented in programming so it was easy to find them and now, he may be good ennought to hide some security holes that only him knows. Personnaly, I have never done that to one of my programs and even me doesn't know how to crash my own server. I will NEVER add something like that because it's childish and totally useless.

Don't forget I am not accusating him or anybody else.

"As you know, Richy is banned here, however he has said he is happy to post auncompressed copy of the latest release for those that still believe there are backdoors hidden.  He did also laugh at the attempt to unpack it as it showsabsolutely nothing, however the strings file does show just how R§WCS differs from KM's WCS.  Please feel free to pick it apart, and notice  that there are some items in the strings list that dont appear on the sample config etc.  Most people will jump toconclusions about what FRA, ITA, NLD, DEU and ENG stand for but surprisingly its fairly plain its just languages he is looking to add but commented out :(in similar fashion to the "backdoors"

It's a shame that he had to throw away all his credibility by leaving in backdoors. As a responsible host I could never use any software written by him due to what he did. Not only did he include code that could allow him to take over a room but he left code in that could allow anyone to take over a room. And that is pretty irresponsible. As I've said previously on this matter, at worst he had malicious intent on his mind. And at best he was careless. Neither of these conclusions would ever allow me to take the risk with anything he ever writes where I cannot see the source code.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I would stay suspicious, even with having the source, how easy would it be to add some source before you compile a release?
Trust is lost and it will be hard to get it back. On the other hand, a host who would take the risk using this software, considering the features it has, will be on alert and know if and when he/she is fooled.

Hi MizBehavin, sorry to disappoint you but the rswcs server did definitvely have a backdoor and it was located in the same way as I made todays uncompressed and stripped release, the current one does look ok but for how long ? Also we have never seen Ritchy apologise for trying to install the backdoor on trusting users machines and any progress is building on sand in our eyes as no one trusts him anymore on this site, Unfortunate but we cant trust a guy who wont admit to what he did even thought the evidence was shown to him in the form of a message payload that told the host they had been "owned".
