OK, I was snatched up by Me_here about a year ago after correcting one of her terrible google translations into german.
Since then we opened up a german section which I'm responsible for and I'm still struggling to keep up with translating at least the most important tutorials etc.
My "home" in winmx is my room of course, but I can also be found in the two winmxworld rooms, trying to help out and generally blaming KM wherever I can ;)

Btw. the yellow sub stands for my job, I'm a technician doing maintenance and repair on a sonar and weapon control system on german submarines.

Just want to say that this was a great idea.

I am Omega. I am starting to become like invisible because of the current situation at my house. I am online when I can be. I know Metis and most Chat Servers. When I am around and you need help with those I am the one that can help. Well I think I am off to being offline. See you all in a week. lol

You can also find me on My Site (http://www.winmxradio.com). The forum is down right now but send me a message in the feedback section of the site and I will answer it when I can.

Update 5/26/2011: Updated link to new site. No forum on the new site. To get to the chatroom list go to http://www.winmxradio.com/chat.

G'day all. I'm pleased to say that WinMxWorld is the base I use to supplement my role as unofficial Director of Research & Development for the room I co-host. Just about anything I need to find an answer for I can find here.

WinMxWorld is the most informative and instructive site I've had the pleasure to become a member of.

Well done to all those involved.

Becareful what you wish for.. lol

We dont have one as of yet for one simple reason.. obviously we need an english speaking Japanese speaking person to run it..

It would require some time and commitment and most of the users we've had in the past that spoke Japanese have had busy lives and could only spare a small time for some translations.. We are still looking for that person that is willing to take on this project tho..

There are very a few Japanese who can speak English.

I have no clue is I'm in the right place or not.  I've used Winmx for years but really have no idea what I'm doing, lol.  My pc crashed about a month ago so I'm in the process of redownloading all my songs.... sigh.  Just need a place to ask questions.

Welcome back Bojangles,
sorry to hear your pc crashed, you found the best place for WinMX help, you are welcome to ask all the questions you like as we will try to help you the best way we can, or have a look round incase there's an answer to a question you would have asked, either way we are here to help.

Hi Bojangles
Welcome to the site :)

If you did not format the disk, then there is a possibility to recover the songs sometimes.
Search for "file recovery freeware" in google and you'll get many tools to help you recover files, free ones.
I liked PC INSPECTOR™ File Recovery (http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm) Just see if that helps you..
I have many great freeware to help one to recover mp3's and files... from crashed hdd's and all.
Just try your luck you may be lucky, Remember though that it's always better to back up stufff on cd's so that this sort of thing does not happen again. All of the tools I have, I got them from the search reults for that term...

Cheers :P

easiest way is to go to settings on your winmx screen click on the file transfers tab this will open another window on the top right of this screen it will show you where your transfers are going ( you can change this to your my music folder by clicking on change and selecting the right filepath)

you could also go to start>>> search  & type in the name of one of the files you are d/loading this will show you what folder this file is in hence giving you the filepath of where that folder is

Hi Cal  :)

If you click on the "Settings" button on your winmx, then look on the left of the panel for "File Transfers", click on that and then the view on the right will change, look now in the top corner for "Incoming Files Folder" and point this to where you want to keep your downloads.

I hope thats helpful and welcome aboard  :D

due to certain problems at the moment the copy you are after could prove a little illusive ...perhaps getting someone to send one via messenger/e-mail might be the solution or you yourself (if you have a copy on your own pc )send one on to the person you are assisting
im sure normal service will be resumed in the next few days though

Hi Cal470

Hmm thats a good question. Have you go the vinyl record player connected to the computer? As that is one method.

Or another method is to set up the record player near the computer and get a software that records onto the computer Gold waver is one, windows does it.

This all depends on which way you would like to do it.

Please let us know further details.

There are several usb record players out there now for a relativly modest price such as the one at the link below
http://www.whybuynew.co.uk/ITTUSB-Ion-ITT-USB-Turntable.html (http://www.whybuynew.co.uk/ITTUSB-Ion-ITT-USB-Turntable.html)
well worth it if you have a substantial collection that you would like to archive /store/share on your pc ( also so you can play over and over anoying the neighbours without wearing out your precious vinyl )

you have a very sound idea however the price is in english pounds, how much is it in usd (u.s. currency)

soon i will be able to share my music  files shortly with all who want to hear.  some albums are eastern european polkas country westerns giong back to woody guthrie, sop, jimmy rogers(singing brakeman of 1929)  and others too many to list.

Title: Re: Welcome
Post by: ]-[êll.Ôñ.ËÀR'][']-[. on October 17, 2007, 08:45:43 pm
They can be a great source for finding files of interest to you as there are many  rooms out there catering for most subjects that may be of interest to you ..... also it is a chance to chat to people from all over the globe and perhaps gain a few new friends........ They can also be a font of information, help and sometimes inspiration to people seeking answers on many a diverse matter,
just browse the channel list to see how many different rooms there are to use and see if anything takes your interest and pop in and give a friendly hello...you will be suprised how friendly some rooms can be.

To be able to chat in a room just join from the list by right clicking on one that takes your interest and use the join channel function...once inside click on the box at the bottom and type your message and hit enter its as easy as that.... bear in mind though that in some rooms due to time difference there may not actually be anyone there even though a list of names may be as it is quite common for people to ''park'' and go do other things.

Hi all from Massachusetts. I've got a question that I hope I can explain properly. Running v3.54.
A couple of months ago, I think, WinMX stopped connecting for me. I ended up re-downloading with the patch included. (Can't remember from where). On the OpenNaps only, I can't continue a file anymore. If I click on a yellow file the program will freeze until I click esc. Then I have to delete the file, even if it's at 99%, and start over. Never had this problem before the re-download. Any ideas why?
Thanks

Hi remrafka

Welcome to winmxworld.com.

Have you made sure your ports are still correct?

Also have allowed and unallowed winmx in your firewalls?

If these suggestions havent worked. Please post back with your operating system and the firewalls and anti-virus you are using.

Well, seeing as i am new here, and this topic is still active years later "must be a good topic" then allow me to introduce myself.
My winmx name is BoguS-Cash, and i have been on winmx since 2001.  I love the darn thing what more can i say, and now, i want to give something back to it...

I started a team that we have dubbed "Team Phoenix" and we have created a website to 1) bring others to winmx. 2) Give them a concise history of what winmx is and how it began  3) offer assistance on any questions they may have about any aspect of the wpn, opennap or features and functionality of winmx or its many add-on and/or run beside programs. and finally  4) Gather any and all able and willing programmers that would like to make a new open source client that will run on both the wpn and opennap networks.

If you feel that you may be able to offer any assistance  it would be greatly appreciated as we have many ideas for new features that we would like to implement into this new p2p client.  There are a lot of things that need to be done on the website as well, like updated tutorials and how-to's and if anyone feels like writing any, please contact us.  Won't be too hard to google for us.  ;)  but if you cant find us, just ask me.  We also have a room on winmx.  (WINMX PHOENIX)  "the hash may change periodically"

Nice to see you Bogus Cash, I have been watching your requests for help on Slycks and did wonder when you where going to find your way here

It does seem to me that your basically attempting to duplicate what we do here already, what you have proposed is a rather large task and has expanded from the original task you stated of creating a new winmx compatible client, can I suggest you stay focused on that as that's what we need the most, trying to cover the whole spectrum as we try to do will take a lot of time and simply means less time for programming/designing/planning, trust me I know.

Can I also ask you to remove the donations box from your site as its sort of off off putting for folks to see that when you are asking them to do all the work on your site, surely its not earning you anything and can be removed without hurting your plans, all the folks on this site help out for nothing and I would like to think if you are truly committed you need not have such a box as folks like myself want to see you do good but I don't like the idea anyone will profit from my help and I'm sure many others here will say the same thing.

We have a development section on the site for programmers so there is some benefit for you if you can see your way clear to showing the good faith I and others are basically waiting to see, anyway good to see you here and I hope to talk to you again many times in the future  :)

Hello folks,

I came here to find out why Winmx was messing up so bad and now I know.
I've been using Winmx for at least ten years now. To me, Winmx is home.
Lately I've been going to OpenNap to d/l the stuff I need. I'd rather do that with on Wimnx  although I'm getting to like OpenNap more and more.  I hope this problem is fixed at some point so I can go back to using Winmx again. Thanks to everyone connected with this site and to those who supply the servers.

I have been usng WnMx since 1998.   I absolutely  love it .  I came here today for the first time to find out what is going on.  It is absolute crap. I remember when  the internet  became so accessible to the public.  Everything was free.  The whole concept was the free exchange of information, etc.  It was like having the whole world  as a library. Now everyone is out to make a buck.  It is not the same.  I will remain loyal to WinMx.  I will never stay. Thank you.   Tonight a friend and I are having wine and dancing with all the music provided by WinMx

Thank you for the warm welcome!
I am a newcomer to the WinMx community. I intend to be a good neighbor by complying with community expectations, such as, sharing data fairly and equitably. I love music from the 60s, 70s and 80s when music was music played by bands; not the canned stuff called "music" today.

I have a considerable collection of these golden oldies. Feel free to contact me.

Hello everyone, I'm a very old user of WinMx and also a very old user (full stop) so am not very technical.  Found this web site because of all the pr***ts flooding our searchs recently.  I am trying to find answers.  I've tried Ares, didn't like it, I want my WinMx working again!  I'm also new to Forums etc so don't expect much from me, I'm a useless old biddy.

Thanks for that, the first link seems a bit too technical for me.  The second one - I don't think the problem is actually fakes, the main problem seems to be that the search criteria that you enter is just being completely ignored and over-ridden.  No matter what you ask for everything gets returned regardless of what you are actually searching for be it a load of useless indecipherable characters or proper writing, it still has no bearing on what you are looking for.

I tried the OpenNap option last night and the searches are still being corrupted in exactly the same way - the search criteria is being ignored.

quite logical ...if you are still connected to the WPN the searches will still be affected by it... in short ..disconnect from the wpn before doing a search :)

PS.. but if you're going to disconnect from the WPN anyway it may be better to use another/better opennap app ;)

Hello, Moonshine & Moonshadow  here, I've been away for awhile, looks like things have changed a lot.
If Emma, Reef or Pri read this I would very much like to talk to you.
I was formerly a member in MovieChasers and The Emerald Forest both as an Admin and Host/Owner.
Has the primary software for WinMx been replaced/updated?
I hope this finds my friends and the WinMX community well.
Look forward to rejoining the community.

I know both Pri and Reef are still to be found in the chat rooms, I'm not familiar with Emma unfortunately.

We are working on a second beta for the OurMX client but its slow going, however we hope to release this month when we have gotten all the fixes in place and polished up,  once again welcome back and I'm sure your friends will read this and drop you a line on where they can be found  8)

Ghost and reef thanks for the reply.

What is the best choice for WinMX software at the moment, at least until the new beta version is released?
Although I'm going to be pretty rusty, I was intimately familiar with the software from Frontcodes original version thru to the "community patch".

What software is supported to construct and host a room?
Is a patch of some sort still in use?

Title: Re: Welcome
Post by: White Stripes on April 13, 2014, 08:13:22 pm
the patch still in use is the 'community patch' ... it cannot, however, filter the current attack on the network so if you want a clean network wait for the beta 2 clone client (aka OurMX) to come out.... if you can stand the fluff use the 'community patched' regular client.... most 3rd party tools still work, for those that dont there is a patch on the same page ( http://patch.winmxconex.com/) you downloaded winmx/community patch...

Hello everyone I had WinMX when P2P got started and I used it mainly for music that I would download and also share what I had, when the program got shutdown and I changed PC's I did not download it again, I was search for something and saw that this forum was going on so I decided to join and see if there is still WinMX program that I can download and install, I miss WinMX very much I could always find the oldies I would be looking for in some ones music list. I did download a setup file but my windows 10 is saying publisher can't be verified is this okay to use?
