those added IP Addresses that send a lot of UDP... erm, those are primary users on major ISPs, peer guardian by default blocks several major ISPs - filtering that traffic filters just as much legitimate traffic and will block you from being able to download from/upload to users on those ISPs that the list maintainers have deemed "unworthy of being allowed on the internet"... i personally advise against the use of peer guardian as the patch does all of the required filtering plus more

Hi Hoho

No there is not, it may be of some benefit if your hosting as PG2 has some added ips that seem to make a lot of UDP floods to primary users however if your not hosting and having to maintain a good UDP connection to folks I see not real need to run it.

Is there a need for Peerguardian with this new patch?
Peerguardian seems to kill most of the secondary connections anyway.......

Note: the winmxgroup patch version 3.0 now includes an installer with winmx 3.31 in it, go to https://www.winmxgroup.com/ :-)

that patch does not work for windows 98, go to www.winmxgroup.com and it will install 3.53 with the 3.53 patch, if you really want 3.31 then you can replace 3.53 with 3.31 but you need the 3.53 patch

viper1,
Here is the url.. same instructions as always..

https://www.winmxworld.com/files/ws2_32.dll
I am a Win98 user.
I place the ws2_32.dll in the WinMX file, and when I try to load WinMX v3.31 again, it said "fail to initialize winsock, program terminating".
What should I do now?

Hi Gang,   My service provider (Ontera) has throttled back WinMX default ports, I connect as a primary, but can't get anything other than dial up speeds for my downloads.

People conecting to me are getting up to 50Kb per second speeds depending on how many slots are being used.

Changed the incoming TCP listen to 7112 and the in/out UDP setting to 22 and all is well.   Obviously use port numbers that work with your hardware setup.

There are Port checking Web sites on the Net you can test with if you are stuck.

Happy New Year (and downloading) To you all in 2006

Sweet if you will follow the instructions of the original post here it should allow you to keep your WinMx v. 3.31 and connect fine ..

Let me know if you need anything further on this or any thing clarified for you..
