Hi!

If I know a users name is there a way to find that one particular user through the search function? Or another method?

Actually, you can't find a user via winmx directly. But if you happen to know some file which you are sure only he has, then you can try and keep searching until you find him in the search results.
A much better method is opennap. You can permenantly add users to the hotlist in opennap.
Also a great place to find rare files....

The easiest way is to know a chatroom they frequent.

Many people have room tags or the address of a room they're in in their auto-response.
From a room you can always browse people and have a chat or two as well :D
