Title: Iolo Personal Firewall and WinMX
Post by: alniter on June 05, 2007, 11:26:43 pm
I installed Iolo Personal Firewall today as part of Kapersky System Mechanic 7 Professional. Now when I try to start WinMX I get an error message that says,

"Could not open a TCP/IP port for listening. (WinMX is now in passive firewalled mode.)

First I tried disabling the firewall, but got the same response. Then I went into the firewall program and added a program policy and clicked "allow" on everything when it comes to WinMX. STILL getting the error message.

Any ideas on how to fix this? On dialup so can't do a primary connection.

make sure it's allowed in the firewall (many, in fact most firewalls don't actually turn off when you disable them, they just stop blocking a load of things)

also, have you tried rebooting? most of the time that cures that particular error

failing that, try going in to winmx settings and changing the TCP port it uses for inbound connections (under settings>internet connection>incoming TCP Connections)
