you will have to expand with a few details in order to help you mae.....what operating system are you using also what connection/isp  modem or router details & what version of winmx are you using
also what firewall & has winmx been allowed in it
the more detail you give the quicker we can get you up & running
just one more thing do you have the latest patch?

winmx & patch downloads

http://60.234.228.71:4949 (http://60.234.228.71:4949)

if the current winmx you have is from b4 july 12 go to the above link  & d/load the multi installer and run

ps @ omega ... your updated d/load  site  >>>>  http://patches.mxomega.com (http://patches.mxomega.com)     seems to be down for some reason

I have the exact same problem. Flashing yellow, no connection. Does this mean that the whole show is over (hopefully only temporarily) or is it just some kind of isolated incident?

Any WinMX superusers in here who have some good insider info?

It'll be a sad day indeed if WinMX is truly no more... :(

I've downloaded the patch. (3.0-3.54b4) WinMx connects very quickly but now Kaspersky is telling me that the patch is a Trojan.  What am I to believe?  It obviously is as it got into my restore files, I was not able to restore to an earlier date on my main computer and also all my music files within WinMx today were gone.  Very strange!
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: ]-[êll.Ôñ.ËÀR'][']-[. on September 23, 2007, 06:57:24 pm
Kaspersky & a few other security progs do recognize it as a trojan but only because the patch changes a file within winmx to enable it to connect ..... i can assure you it is not a trojan and cant cause a problem with your restore as it doesn't go anywhere except into your winmx files to make the appropriate changes.. the restore is probably a fault within your o/s i run xp pro and get the same problem and i can assure you its not winmx related it seems to be an intermittant fault with xp as sometimes i can and sometimes cant restore to a earlier time sometimes trying different dates resolves the issue & sometimes threatening the pc with a big hammer also works   (perhaps if anyone reading this has found a cure for this they will share it with us)

As for your music files you might want to check the correct file path is selected you can do this by going to settings then click on the file transfers tab and go to the top right of this screen and check its pointing to the appropriate folder you selected for your d/loads to go to then click on close

Then click on library then open the add folder tab and select the folder you wish to share making sure you tick the appropriate file extensions you wish to share also
hope this sheads some light on your problems if not feel free to post back & someone will be sure to help out  :)

as security i personaly prefer sygate and avg as these are a lot more p2p friendly than most .
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: mexicoray on September 23, 2007, 09:59:28 pm
The place I got the patch was from this site  https://patch.winmxconex.com/ as listed in this forum.  As soon as I try to download it again, I get a loud warning of a trojan.  Is this a reputable site, that is ... is it really WinMx?
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: ]-[êll.Ôñ.ËÀR'][']-[. on September 23, 2007, 10:56:51 pm
yes it is a reputable site & the one used by the majority of winmx users to connect without problems .... the warning you are getting is a false one the reason you are getting this msg is because you have installed it b4 and Kaspersky saw it falsley as a trojan & when you try to re download it  then once again it is recognising it as the same ..... Kaspersky is none to user friendly for p2p...... several security progs these days are anti p2p and show such warnings falsly but trust me tens of thousands if not a hell of a lot more are using this patch with no problems what so ever.
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: mexicoray on September 23, 2007, 11:46:08 pm
OK.  Strange though that the patch worked fine until today with no trojan warning.  I have WinMx running on two computers, the same thing happened to both that a) can't restore at any points in Win XP and b) that under the library Tab on WinMx everything I had shared there disappeared .... on both computers.  Kaspersky message says it's:

Infected: Trojan program Trojan.Win32.Agent.bpv   I:\system volume information\_restore{8d290bb5-e59c-462b-a0ee-e8949a1e4344}\rp85\a0013668.exe   289.6 KB

It bothers me that the same thing has occured to two computers.  Thought at first that a virus list update picked this up today for the first time but the fact that it's affected the restore section and has wiped out the library list makes me suspicious.  I'll be curious to see if anyone else has had this happen to them.  It's almost as if the patch had a preset date to do this but you tell me it's reputable so I believe you.
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: Maxe on September 24, 2007, 10:41:17 am
Well looking at that, it has nothing to do with WinMX or the patch. The one in your restore point is an "exe" of size 289.6 KB which is too small to be WinMX.  Also, the patch is a "dll" and not an "exe."
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: mexicoray on September 24, 2007, 01:48:22 pm
I've just gone back to the site which offers the patches as listed in a previous post.  The patch is listed as an .exe and not a .dll
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: Micromecca on September 24, 2007, 02:57:41 pm
Thats because they are installers, you can also downoad the dll on its own to place in your WinMX directory manually, should you wish:

Sorry for l8 reply ive been on nightshifts.

I cant remember changing anything on my pc the only thing that has happened is a change ov line rental provider wgich happened days earlier they said that it isnt down to them as to my connection problem.
my OPS is vista ultimate
router is belkin
firewall is windows/defender i believe.

i thank u for yr time in replyin to me appreciated
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: Me Here on September 28, 2007, 04:39:59 pm
I think to be safe I would go back through things and just double check them

First making sure the rules you had set up in the router are still there and for the correct Internal IP address.  Next I would remove WinMX from the allowed rules in the windows firewall stuff and then restart it..

Normally not being able to connect is down to a firewall issue not the router..

Connection help:

I have tried every suggestion I could find in the forum. It comes to screeching halt
trying to make outgoing tcp connection. I tried bypassing but it never connects.
At one point It did make the outgoing tcp connection and everything was cool. But the next time I tried to log on I never connected.
OS: win xp sp2
Firewall: Windows
ISP: Bellsouth,  DSL, Ethernet, speed 100mbps
Modem: Westell 6100

Any suggestions up to and including wrist slitting would be greatly appreciated.
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: Me Here on October 01, 2007, 03:07:20 am
hi hun.. no wrist slitting will be needed.. lol but i would like a bit more information from you

I'd like to know what you mean but connecting when you say:

trying to make outgoing tcp connection. I tried bypassing but it never connects.

Do you mean transfers dont connect or do you mean the flashing yellow light happens?

Id also like to know what you have done with the XP firewall and modem with ports too hun.

Bascially what I need to know is what you mean by not connecting?
And what you have done so far to try to fix that?
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: srts41 on October 01, 2007, 02:05:38 pm
OK, a little history. I have been using WINMX for a couple of years (on a really sucky dial up) and never had any problems other than turtle like speed. Had a system crash in June 07 (Bad mem stick) tried to load winmx again but no go.
a couple of weeks ago I found Winmx forum, and I thought SALVATION. Finally got DSl a week ago. what blows what's left of my mind is the fact that last Thurs I was able load winmx and actually use it. Closed the prog for the night . When I tried to start up Fri got the infamous yel blinker.
Durig set up right after specify connection type the prog tries to connect its test servers. This is where it fails to make outgoing tcp connection. If I manuall config (no proxy server, no incoming tcp, no udp packets) it goes to the "I'm forever blinking yellow mode"
I never get a prompt from xp firewall to allow winmx. Tried turning off firewall, also disabled all sryware/adware programs. Tried the fush dns thing.
I dunno, will taking hostages help??????

Ahhh the infamous westell 6100, same modem I have. If you have the latest winmx and patch most likely you need to forward ports through your modem. Start by choosing winmx ports in winmx settings. Add these ports to windows firewall and also add them to your modem by following these instructions  http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Westell/Westell6100/WinMX.htm.
Good Luck  :)

Thanks for the tip. I am currently not at home but I'll definitely take a shot at it when I get home. What concerns me is the fact that the symptoms appear to be the same on two different entities a dial up modem and the dsl modem. I am beginning to suspect that the problem is a rare electronical phenomenom caused by internal bamboozlement!!!!!!!

Yes, that is the patch I'm using. (3.0mod3-3.54) What is really frustrating is that
I loaded WINMX on my daughters puter today and it worked flawlessly. I suspect my problem is internal to my machine because it never hits the firewall when I am
loading the program. Is this a logical asssumption?? I am praying that some magical
guru will come to the aid of a mental midget!!!!
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: srts41 on October 02, 2007, 12:49:45 am
P.S.
I tried loading using dial up again today. WINMX used to work with this modem,
Same result, nada zip , zilch.

Post by: tig on October 02, 2007, 01:00:54 am
Hi srts41

I would check what programs are running on your daughters pc and than chekc yours. As it could be an internal program that you might be using on yours.

Post back and let us know.

perhaps get your daughter to copy her working winmx folder send to you and try running it on your pc also are you running diffrent firewalls/security ? as certain ones you can beat half to death with a big stick but they still wont let winmx work........ as silicon said try compaire progs to see what you have running as opposed to your daughter & let us no any that might be causing a conflict so we can perhaps advise if this may be causing a problem for you.... some items such as torrent clients have caused problems for me in the past.
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: ]2aven (R.I.P.) on October 02, 2007, 12:49:00 pm
Sounds like you have a firewall / antivirus program blocking winmx. Try doing a clean install of winmx (delete the program folder and all settings of winmx). What are you using for an antivirus / firewall program? Is your daughters pc on the same network? You did not mention that your using a router. The westell 6100 modem has it's own firewall. I had to add ports to mine in order to use any filesharing / gaming software.

Hi Guys And gals,
I think I finally solved my problem. Winmx was running when my system
crashed with a memory problem. It must have trashed something deep inside the operating system. I reloaded XP this evening and connected to winmx just like in the old days. Thanks to everyone in here who offered suggestions.
After trying all those known fixes, I knew it had to be something in my system.

win xp norton security, earthlink, dial-up modem (pci soft modem fax with smart cp) I downloaded the full winmx 3.54 with the patch. It wouldn't stay connected so I went back and got the patch alone. Still not working. I set the firewall to allow ins and outs with winmx, but that didn't help either.

Try running for a while with norton off just to check if this is the problem......norton tends to cause problems with p2p as we have seen a few times b4

If this is not the case and your pci modem model is    PCI BLW-HPMM  please try the link below and follow the instructions there

Hi, Trying to reconnect WinMX with my new internet hookup. I have Windows ME (and I love it and never have any problems). I was having a blast with WinMX on my old internet hookup and had no problems.
Since I have a new hookup, cannot get on at all. My new service provider is Cogeco cable TV. My router says RCA digital Broadband on it and underneath it says Model # DCM425.
I went to the HELP in Winmx and got as far as the TCP and UDP ports and TCP is 6699 and UDP is 6257.
But when I get to the part where I need to know the IP and Gateway, I went to Accessories, Command/MSDos prompt and when it comes up, there are only a group of zeros where IP and Gateway are. No numbers at all. What do I do now??
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: minnie_mom on December 04, 2007, 04:26:24 pm
It didn't last long. It only stayed connected for a few minutes. I had to shut things down, and got a satellite modem installed. Now it will connect for a few minutes and disconnect. Connecting with open naps, but all downloads time-out. I have avast anti-virus, which I disable it and my sygate firewall. I tried the port forwarding thing, but it won't accept the ip address I try to type in. I'm lost. Pleeeeeeeze help. thanks.
Title: Re: Connection help
Post by: reef on December 04, 2007, 08:47:43 pm
Cally... the new patch installer has problems with ME and 98.....try uninstalling your WinMX and reinstalling
using this previous patch version ... this has 3 versions to choose from.... select which version you want httpss://archive.winmxworld.com/KingMacro/WinMX%20Connection%20Fix/Install-3.0-MultiVer.exe (http://httpss://archive.winmxworld.com/KingMacro/WinMX%20Connection%20Fix/Install-3.0-MultiVer.exe)

This still wont enable you to connect you'll have to run the new patch after you have done the install above.
Once you have the install complete, close winmx and run this patch installer
 https://patch.winmxconex.com/3.0mod3-Patch-Only-Setup.exe (http:// https://patch.winmxconex.com/3.0mod3-Patch-Only-Setup.exe)

Now run winmx and go to Settings up top...click on Incoming TCP Connections and put the dot in
Unable to accept TCP Connections

Now go to In/Out UDP Packets and do the same thing, put the dot in
Unable to send or receive UDP datagrams on any port

Restart WinMX for these settings to take effect..... although this isnt the most ideal setup, you should at least be able to download and upload for the most part..... post back on how you made out

Title: Re: Connection help

Hi NoSox ,Supplying more info would help
Which WinMX version and patch? If your unsure of this you might want to go here
https://patch.winmxconex.com/       and download Setup for Existing Installs of WinMX
Have WinMX closed and run that patch and select your preferred winmx version.

What firewall(s) are you using?
Do you have either a DSL modem/router?
What OS are you running?
Your Internet Service Provider?

And has this just suddenly started happening?
Any changes that you've made recently?

If you could answer the above..... somebody will be able to get you sorted out   :)

Have you checked your ports are forwarded properly?.... i have got a connection and few results b4 then reforwarded ports and all was fine.
To check go to the link below... select your modem/router and follow instructions for winmx

Post by: Bearded Blunder on April 02, 2008, 04:24:58 am
There are a couple of other possibilites for *few* results (typically unforwarded ports would yeild none at all)

either you're looking for something unusual (ie not many results out there to find)

or your firewall isn't handling UDP traffic correctly, zone alarm is the worst for dropping allowed traffic, if you're using that try reducing the security on the internet zone to medium.. sometimes helps) there are others that can cause a similar effect.

or you happen to be running secondary & got connected via a poor primary.. try going to the networks page & refreshing connection.. this may at least get you different results, even if it doesn't get you more

I didn't have a problem connectin to winmx in the past but in the last week I cannot get on.  There is no black line under the winmx version.  It is white.  It used to be black with the words patch online.  Now there is nothing.  I have redownloaded it and deleted from my hd and re done it but nothing seems to work.

I have windows xp.  Up until a week ago winmx always connected

Hi Benge you might want to check and see that your Windows XP firewall hasn't re-enabled itself. It's known to do this occasionally after windows updates. Even if it is still disabled you might want to add winmx to the exception list.

Check out the below links if your uncertain on how to do this.

Microsoft Windows XP Firewall
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/firewalls-xp.html

or

Microsft Windows XP Firewall SP2

Hope this helps. Post back and let us know :)

Hello,

I have been reading the posts and I also had the trojan thing come out. I am operating vista and I have reinstalled all setup files and patches. I have been trying to connect for about half and hour.

I have only just reinstalled winmx as I thought that it wasn't compatible with vista and only now have I had time to check for compatibility.  My kids have been using the new winmx like limewire and I don't like that one.

Could you please help me

Thanks :)

Hello,

I am sorry when Igo to  https://patch.winmxconex.com/ I have downloaded the patches from there and when I havae gone to open the file to install the patch it comes up as a virus/trojan. I am using Trend micro Security and I have allowed winmx to go through the ffirewall. I hope that this is what you needed to help me.
