ok susan there are 2 programmes that will do what you need

1. NERO ULTRA you can find this at....

http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/Products.html

2.CUCUSOFT you can find this at....

http://www.cucusoft.com/

i am sorry about your wait for my reply but like i said both of these programmes will convert your avi file and burn it to a cd disk that will play in your dvd player.

if you need any more help of any kind please feel free to ask or if you do decide to use either of these programmes and are stuck with how they work i will gladly help you out with this..

I use nero to burn DVD's, yet sometimes they won't burn. It will get so far into the file, then it hangs. If you try again, it will stop in the same place. This could happen in the first few seconds, or after it's been running for an hour. I;m talking .avi files here of around 700mb. It's very frustrating after waiting forever for it to finish only to find it won't burn to dvd.

Any idea why this might happen? I'm a bit of a techno nong, so be gentle!

Thanks in advance.

one of neros main problems is it need for nearly every plugin you can think of

like    mpeg2  and mpeg4 and so on    all of which i might add need to be paided for.

i would still say that you may find cucusoft to be your answer.
but having said that if you have a dvd burner then i will with out a doubt say that you will get great results with   DVD SANTA... which will find here...

http://www.dvdsanta.com/

this programme will take any type of movie file convert it and burn it to a dvd without it asking for this or that plugin..
i hope this helps but please feel free to fire any other questions you might have i will only be to happy to answer them.
