A failed three-year police investigation of a filesharing website, run in cooperation with the music industry, cost taxpayers at least £29,000, and probably much more.
The probe was launched with a high-profile dawn raid in 2007 and ended this January with the failed prosecution of Alan Ellis, the Middlesbrough man who ran OiNK.cd, on charges of conspiracy to defraud. He was acquitted by a Middlesbrough jury, to the anger of the BPI and IFPI.

Ellis' barrister Alex Stein suggested at his trial that authorities had been hoodwinked into action. "All of us here are being manipulated to some sort of marketing strategy by the IFPI. If anybody's acting dishonestly it's them," he told the court.

Its always nice to see justice done especially when the villians in this case are the BPI conspiring to act with the police to close down a bit torrent site based on fraudulent or misleading  evidence put forward by the BPI, had this case gone the other way all UK based p2p sites would have been under threat but thankfully Justice  prevailed and the BPI have cost UK taxpayers yet more revenue on top of the new 25% recording industry tax that ISP,s will now force upon all internet users because the greedy scum at the recording industry dont want to pay their way, when will someone stop these self appointed anti p2p fraudsters ?

I wonder if the police will recharge those costs on to the BPI for time wasting?
