We’ve often accused Hollywood of using national and local police forces as copyright cops at the expense of local tax payers.

The members of the Big 4 organised music gang do the same thing, of course.

However, it seems we were wrong, at least as far as the major movies studios are concerned.

According to the MPAA, owned by Walt Disney Studios, Paramount Pictures Corporation, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, Universal City Studios, and Warner Bros Entertainment, 13 enforcement agencies were the recipients of Hollywood bribes — sorry, awards >>>

County of Fresno (Fresno, California – $49,992)

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (Los Angeles, California – $200,000)

County of Sacramento (Sacramento, California – $200,000)

Miami Shores Village (Miami Shores, Florida – $64,885)

Attorney General’s Office, Mississippi, (Jackson, Mississippi – $166,365

North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State (Raleigh, North Carolina – $199,978)

Bronx County District Attorney (Bronx, New York – $113,103)

New York City (New York City, New York – $192,200)

The New York County District Attorney’s Office (New York City, New York – $199,800)

Houston Police Department (Houston, Texas – $200,000)

City of San Antonio (San Antonio, Texas – $200,000)

Chesterfield County, Virginia (Chesterfield, Virginia – $200,000)

Virginia Department of State Police (Richmond, Virginia – $149,907)

Bribes — sorry, awards — in unspecified amounts were also made to the City of Los Angeles Police Department, the National Crime Prevention Council, The National Association of Attorneys General and the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), says the MPAA.

It's surprising what you find once you start looking.  ;)
