Hello! I have a strange problem with my winmx primary connection. It was working a few weeks ago then I removed the program. I reinstalled the program a few days ago and now I dosn´t work as it is suppose to. I know that the problem lies in my computer because there are no problems when I use a laptop. (same internet connection).

Well the problem is that when I start I primary connection I wont get any search hits and I am unable to download files. UPLOADS WORK just as they are supposed to tough. I noticed that on my laptop I can get connected to 7 or 8 peers (and a number of secondary) when I run a primary connection but on my stationary I can only connect to 3, 4 or 5. Also if I am fast and do a search BEFORE P=4 has been reached, I get lots of search results just as usual. But as soon ass my maximum of around 4 primary connections has been established. I can no longer search files or download anything. Chat-channels won’t work either. This happens within a few seconds.
It appears as if my computer somehow have gotten some sort of a limit to how many connections (of some sort) it can have.

I have no idea to what can have caused this. I have not done any larger changes to my computer for I while. Except for new ati graphics drivers.

I am connecting to the internet through a router but that is not the problem. It worked just fine with both router and software firewall at the same time, (before). That configuration still works when I use the laptop. I have also changed ports and everything but still the same thing happens. Also tried disabling al firewalls and bypassing router. No luck!

Any help is appreciated.

Well I have been doing some thinking about your problem, and have a few suggestions for you as I went through this myself recently after a power outage...

First of all you can only have one machine on primary usually at a time so make sure the lap top is off or connected secondary to WinMX.

Also if your using Windows Xp the firewall has a habit of causing problems and its best to make an exception for WinMX in it.. go here for instructions on how.
Firewalls and WinMX
Be sure your ports set in WinMX are the same as on the firewalls and router and that you have 4 separate numbers set in the router for the two computers...

If you still have this problem then try connecting using a secondary connection on the pc.  If that works then is a conflict of ports somewhere.
If you dont need a primary and it works on secondary then be happy with that ... lol
Some network cards can only handle a certain number of primaries so not sure since you say it was a graphics card you added...

Let us know if any of this helped you out...

have you tried using different tcp/udp  port settings from the normal default ones.

Actually, thats what I meant..I had never used the firewall either. however when I turned in on and made an exception I got my primary services back... Thought it migh be worth a try...

and yea port changes would be my next move..although I am skeptical that they would work either...sounds like a blocked udp port...

Also we are seeing this alot lately and the ISPs are doing some of it...

Can you tell me who your ISP is, so I can peek around at them too..

I have a similar problem

Only WinMX is operational uploads, downloads and searches then 1 by 1 the files turn red as "Timed out waiting for network reply" yet the uploads and downloads continue.  Even the queued users for a download time out although the file is downloading.  The searches never result.  Then minutes/hours later all returns to normal.

Is this the same?  Are there any solutions if not?

Um this is similar Poruge yes.

So I would like to know a bit about your set up.

First thing is who/what ISP your with and is it Cable or Dsl?
Are you on primary or secondary?
Do you have a router?
What operating system do you have on your machine?
What version of WinMX do you use?

Thanks...

Hi,

I just installed winmx patched with the 1.9 DLL.  I'm finding that I am not getting any search results at all, but I can connect fine as either primary or secondary.  People are getting my files from me fine, but I can't search or download.

Hi Mourning,

This sounds like it could be a port problem.  WinMX requires you to have ports 6699 TCP and 6257 UDP open for traffic.  This means that if you have a router or dsl modem you may need to forward 'Open' those ports there, also in your XP firewall.
Help with Router Ports

Other firewalls can also require you to open these ports, and if you tell me more about your sytem then I can probablly tell you better what to look for.
Configuring Firewalls
Also make sure that your WinMX is set right.

Go to Settings > Incoming TCP > make sure this says 'Listen on port 6699 for TCP
and.. > IN/OUT UDP > make sure is set to Send and Receive on port 6257 also..

Let me know if this helps you any...
