ignore uploaders possible?

I hate those uploaders that never start anything but seem to have everything. All they do is f**k up net traffic. Is there a way to ignore them like you ignore downloaders? Ignoring them doesn't help for uploading because winmx still tries to dl from them and then it times out usually causing other dl's to time out as well.

If this is not possible, can someone change/add code to winmx that provides this function?

Nope not really possible with winmx and i would not count on anyone changing or adding winmx functions (any time soon anyway)

All you can try is find out every single IP of those users and block them by firewall (block all japan and lose most of them?  )

best bet is hang out in a room, get to know them and u wont have a prob getting  files as most will be happy to share with u

that'll take out most of the networks primaries.... so i dont really advise that...

Ok so not in winmx nor with MxMonitor, but is there another monitor-like app that can ignore both downloaders and uploaders?

3rd party dev for winmx has basically ceased... what toys there are -- are all here...

ping and whois are all you have to 'check out' a potential download source....

If someone had the time such a program could build on the back of the bad IP filter functionality of the last bendmx version 3.99a3 which would save any developer a lot of time but more code would need to be added to duplicate some portions of the community patch as trying to run two third party programs  alongside winmx seems to end in disaster and thus some of the patch features would need to be included in the build, not beginners work but not beyond the scope of many community coders.

if you are talking about modding the patch as well wouldnt it be easier to just add a 'user entries' method to the blocklisting function instead of riding on a very much unfinished bendmx?

The advantage of building on BendMX instead of the patch is that with Bend, the user would have a nice GUI where they can change settings as-well as other fun stuff. Most of what you would need for a patch is already in there and it wouldn't have to be a new version of BendMX either as you could just take what you need instead of having a big-ish source to prowl with functions that aren't needed and may cause compatibility problems.

the unfinished 3.99a is the only one that 'works' with the 'new' winmx's (and most of its functions dont work) ... the last fully functional bendmx worked with 3.31 ...

and i was thinking more along the lines of a shim... a seperate program... attached neither to mx or the patch but riding between patch and cache server... tho granted there would be no ui... or at least user friendly ui...  there either since its not attached to mx...

After reading through this thread I have become very curious as to the strength of the network by Geographical location. Does anyone on this forum have the ability to produce a pie chart showing the number of Winmx users by country? I know it could not be accurate because the network is always changing, but if it gave a rough ideal that would be very interesting to see.

After thinking more about my last question I have become self aware that its probably not possible to chart the number of users because the network is completely decentralized. It would still be awesome to see.

well actually it is possible but i don't think anyone will make it public as accurate as you would like to see it

not 100% possible to get the numbers but one can get a good estimate.... suffice it to say around 60+% of the network is japanese...
