Just installed and nothing works

Hi, i had winmx for years with no problems.  My computer crashed and i lost everything.  I downloaded from the link with the patch here on this website.  Set my bandwith throttle to where it was before, tried to enter a room, and they wouldn't let me stay because i didn't have any files.  I tried to search for files, and omg....there was the awfullest mess came up.  What should i do?  How can i get more files?  Add them to my computer from CDs?  Should i not do searches?

The files in the lists are still good files as far as I know. You gotta wade  thru the crap so to speak or use the open nap function. Dig around here, read whats going on to make your own judgement call about weather or not you want todo any downloading.

Thus we see a good reason for having backups...
Even a portable external drive is a good thing, disconnect it and put it aside when not doing a backup...

The 'Mess' is many files with foreign language filenames

Yes, rip at least a few from CD's so you have a basic library of shares, then go hunting

WMW help room is a good place for extra help, and to find more rooms
in rooms, be nice, browse other users for files, and you can start to rebuild
