Hi
Windows Media files or .wma files are easy to share on WinMX. The real question is do you want to.
Just incase you didnt already know this, the reason that .wma files are not listed as a default type of file to share through WinMX is the nature of the Microsoft Windows Media Player to imbed personal information about the users computer that actually did the ripping of the files. Often this information is not noticed by the user that rips the files or anyone else, but I can find it with simple free tools I use and you can bet that experts that want to know where the tracks or files came from can as well. Also its important to note that simply converting them doesnt usually remove this information either.
Keep in mind also that when you download these files then share them your also passing some unsuspecting users personal info on down the line too ..
That said some folks still want to share their .wma files, and its very easy to do.
For version 3.53 you simply go to the shared files page and choose 'Shared File Types' button, there you will see a place to type in file types you wish to share that are not already listed. Just type in .wma and then click ok and refresh.
For version 3.54 you can go to 'Shared File Types' and this will bring up a box in the Settings of MX, there you can also add this file type by clicking the 'New' button then add the .wma in the ( brackets).
As for converters there are not as many to choose from for this job, but you can find lots here:
http://www.audiotoolsdirect.com/Many of the tools there are shareware, meaning you only get to try them for a time before you have to purchase them, but if you dig around there I am sure you can find some Freeware ones also.
My best advise is to use a free ripper like Cdex and rerip the files if its at all possible and then share them.
