U.N. Affirms Internet Freedom as a Basic Right

That debate was freshly stirred on Thursday as the United Nations Human Rights Council passed a landmark resolution supporting freedom of expression on the Internet. Even China, which filters online content through a firewall, backed the resolution. It affirmed that “the same rights that people have offline must also be protected online, in particular freedom of expression, which is applicable regardless of frontiers and through any media of one’s choice.”

I didn't know we were doing that TBH.  If we are it's equally laughable.  ...and we'd deserve to get kicked in the junk for it.

I'd like to read up on that if you could provide a link.

Mouth agape.

I shouldn't be shocked though.  Most of our politicians need to be tarred and feathered and flogged within an inch of their lives.  Publicly.  On a related note, most of our public ought to actually start caring about what our government is doing.

...you know, that was more funny when it was only China.  >.>

I hear you mate, at least when you guys suffered under bush, your elections were a mitigating circumstance.
Enough people actually voeted for ours to allow them to win.
I don't think any nation wholly stands behind its elected officials.

There are a bunch of sayings, such as:

  • Out of the frying pan and into the fire
  • Better the devil you know than the devil you don't
  • They all suck, so why bother

I'll limit it to that.  It seems to be the general consensus, each covering something to one degree or another.  In this case, I'm guessing that it won't be #2.
