Hello hogweed, you can right click the winmx icon  in your task bar (normally located at the bottom of your screen by your clock) and uncheck Auto - Startup

settings > miscellaneous > 'start winmx hidden in system tray automatically when computer starts'

if that button is 'pushed in' it'll start if its 'bumped out' it wont (shouldnt)

What version of winmx are you running?
also what operating system? XP? Win7? other?

I've never seen winmx in startup programs, but maybe for some strange reason yours is in there.

For XP you can click start... click run... type in     msconfig      click OK.... click startup and check if winmx is in there, and untick it if it is. If it's Win7 that you run, have a peek here to see how to find startup items

or even click the Start Button>All Programs>Startup (For win 7) Start>Programs>Startup for XP or earlier
