UK ISP BT To Fire UP Porn Filters After Govt Nudge

Following on from a bold statement made by british prime minister David Cameron earlier on in the year I have been watching the steady roll out of the great firewall and this time it will affect me

BT has announced that new customers will from today have porn filters automatically switched on when they subscribe to its broadband service.

BT, along with other major ISPs, has signed up to the government's campaign to protect children from pornography, which involves forcing 95 percent of houses currently connected to the internet to choose whether to switch on filters by the end of next year. Sky and TalkTalk have already launched filter choice at the point of sign up, and Virgin Media is set to introduce a similar system soon.

As usual we can expect mission creep from this so called "filter" today it will be porn and tomorrow the pirate bay and any other site the govt wants to censor, It does seem hypocritical that while governments in the west berate the Chinese for their "great firewall of China" they all seem in a rush to copy it .

protect children from porn? how else are they supposed to fact check what they're being told by their peers at school? These politicians should spend a week in a junior school and I bet they're be rushing home to check the web wondering why they haven't heard about that before.
I'd rather my kids watch porn than a few other things on the net.

I don't think Porn is the top of the list that kids need to be protected from, obesity, bullies, cyber bullies.

If they think kids are learning the wrong thing if they watch porn, WTF are kids learning from watching pokemon? trap little animals in a tiny cage/ball and let them out only to fight? what kind of life lesson is that. and the older kids, WTF is the series dexter about. It ok to be a serial killer provided you kill 'bad' people and your ratings are ok? Not to get started on the lessons they are learning from politicians themselves? huh? it's ok to lie and cheat provided you get elected? as long as it gets the right results? idiots the lot of them.
