Justice seems to move rather slowly in the US but persistence seems to have paid off recently

"This decision is a crucial victory," said Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) Intellectual Property Director Corynne McSherry. "We are thrilled that a higher court has recognized that it is unfair to sue thousands of people at once, in a court far from home, based on nothing more than an allegation that they joined a BitTorrent swarm."
This seems like the death then of many of the "fishing expedition" style copright infringement extortion scams practiced in the US, if they want subscriber data from an ISP they now need to ensure they have some actual evidence for obtaining such private information.
A fair decision from the court in this case, albeit an overdue one.
