Hi Megrondav,
There are a couple of things that can block your downloading on WinMX.
I will briefly go through the major/most common ones and you can go through the fixes and see what gets you results...
Are you able to download a few songs, but most time out?
If the answer is yes, then most likely your trying to download fakes files, there are a few tricks to use, click here to learn more
Avoiding FakesPay close attention to number 4 on that list of tricks.
If your downloads are not working EVER, in other words NONE, then this is usually a problem that is in a firewall or router.
Its very common for a router to need to have ports forwarded in order for you to be able to use WinMX properly.
You need to have the model number of your router and the brand and go to this site:
PortForward.ComHere look for your brand and model, then click on Port Forwarding for that model.
On the next page look down the list for WinMX, click this... Follow the instructions given there.
NOTE: It is NOT necessary to set up a static IP for this, so skip that step. (I know it says in big letters not to skip it, trust me most people dont need a static ip for WinMx)
Set up a rule to allow WinMX on port 6699 for TCP and allow on port 6257 UDP.
If it asks you for your ip, dont panic its easy to find that out.
To get your internal IP for that computer just do this:
You can find out what a machines internal IP is by doing the following, go to
Start > Programs > Accessories > Command/MSDos prompt, in the box type in
'ipconfig' for getting the ip of the machine your on. The gateway is the IP of your router, and the other IP that is similar is the one your router might need.
Save your settings and restart.
If you are still having problems after the router is set up, then its time to look at your Norton and SP2 firewalls also.
For configurations to your XP firewall go to this link:
SP2 XP FirewallFor Norton if you have the 2005 version follow these instructions for allowing WinMX.
Go to
Options > Internet Worm Protection > Control Programs and allow WinMX.You should see an options to
Add Programs, add WinMX and click Allow All.
Okay this concludes my long winded post... hopefully, something here will fix your downloads. Let me know how this all worked out for you...
