User Connection Problems
« on: December 21, 2005, 01:50:41 pm »
I Had no problems with Winmx except my DSL speed was to slow. I changed ISP's and now have double the speed. As soon as I changed to this ISP Iam able to connect to Winmx and other users. However, only about 1 in 20 is able to upload from me and about the same when downloading from them. The rest just sit idle even though connected and then time out. Does any one know what the problem could be. It is most frustrating for people trying to upload from me and me downloading from them.
I am now using WinMx v3.54 beta 4 but has not solved anything.

Any idea's please as I need HELP big time.
Thanks

Captain who is your new ISP?

Many cable companies are filtering, throttling, and port shaping in general, and this sounds typical of  that activity.

Thanks for the reply
It's a company in Australia that uses Ventana software. It's a carrier called Veridas Communications. veridas.net
What you are saying is what i was afraid of and is there any way around it as I am now stuck with this for the next 12 months
Thanks again

It does sound like an ISP issue, often its possible to UL or DL from other users on the same ISP this would explain why the odd file gets through.

First thing to try is to change your Winmx ports, perhaps add a 2 to the front of both the TCP and UDP, dont forget to make the relevant changes in your FW/Router.

You may have to spend sometime experimenting with ports, you may be wasting your time, you may not, it might also we worth trying to identify some other users with the same ISP and ask then if they have found a way round it.
