New 4 Channel Music Format Launched

DJ and producer Prime Cuts from the Scratch Perverts explains why he's using a new music format called Stems, which has been developed by Native Instruments.

Stems software splits a track into four separate musical elements: drums, bass line, melody and vocals. Prime Cuts tells BBC Click's LJ Rich that rather than making life easier for a DJ, the creative options the format brings are 'vast'.

I can see a lot of additional creativity if this sort of 4 track concept  format hits the mainstream so folks can rework remix and otherwise toy with their favourite sounds. I dont see it getting any traction amongst RIAA members however as it offers too much freedom to creative folks.

this guy uh... basically very badly reinvented the amiga mod format... ironically also 4 channels....

Hmm I dont think the track idea is that new but I believe it offers something more over the current "fixed mix" format and benefits from being backed by a reputable company.
