Noticing differences between clients
« on: July 18, 2006, 11:33:19 pm »
So far, I've tried Limewire, Morpheus, Bearshare and now MX.

I find the system to work quite a bit different then the other three. Looking at MX, I notice things in the search field which I can't understand. Which speed is 0+2? 99 94 in lowest or highest. Can't figure that out? Is it the higher the queue number, the lesser my chances of obtaining that specific file?

Also, I was told in the one time I was able to get into a chat room that another person can outright refuse another member if he doesn't have enough files, or some other file  who's being uploaded to doesn't want. An example is if I went looking for a film. If I don't have any other films downloaded in my library, I can be sol from being able to download a film from someone else.

Is this more of a trade site?

Well actually you can find all sorts of things and people on winmx.
I'll answer one by one.

0+2 is not a speed. It shows the number of users with free slots(so that you can immediately download) + Queued users (the number of people who want a file from the same user but are already on the queue before you) The numbers 98, 95, etc show the number of people in the queue. Eg 95 means there are 95 people in front of you who are wanting the same file from the user. So you will have to wait till some slots get freed so that you can download. Higher the queue number, more is the time you will have to wait for your chance to download. But queues can move fast if the connection speed of that user is high.

Well, yes you can be automatically cut off from downloading from other people if you do not have a minimum number of files. Don't fret please. This is mainly done by people who do not like people with 0 files shared to download from them. Generally the minimum number of files that you must share is about 50 - 60 maybe on the higher side 100, but generally not more than that.
Sharing files will ensure that you do not end up on the ignore list of users and never get to download from them again.
If you do tell people that this is the first film you are downloading and you will definitely share the files, then they probably will allow you to download. But be true to your word and if you have even one film shared, no one will ask anything more. Does not have to be of dvd quality only or something. Normal ones will do :)
Basically you can find both stingy people and kind folks. It's a mixed community just as you would find in any other place. One great thing about winmx which is not there on most clients is chat and ability to host rooms. Something that makes winmx one big community.

For the record Winmx is not a trading P2P and neither is this site. Oh by the way, if you do not know how to share, then please visit this link.

Thank you very much for your info, Samseesam!  :D
I really appreciate it! :)

So typically, if I see 1+2, the 1 is the number of slots open for that file. The 2 would be the number of people in line for the queue.
Am I right?

I have no problem sharing my files, as long as I'm able to take as well. I currently have about 134 files shared in different catagories.I personally find it unnecessary for people to be leeches. What's the point? A person is just giving back what he/ or she has been givin from someone who did share. IMO, leeching might as well be stealing.

there are add in programs to prevent leeches getting files from you, typically they cancel/ignore anyone without a specified number of files, this number can be set by the user.

if you se 1+2 you can click on the small + at the extreme left of that line & the results for that file will expand, giving you full details, winmx can also be configured to give expanded results view by default, but it can result in a lot of scrolling through the results.
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.
