Admin commands not working
« on: January 14, 2006, 03:35:38 am »
Hi,

I'm an admin in an ouka room and yesterday a user came in flooding and causing trouble. I tried to kick and ban him but none of the commands worked and another admin tried with the same results..

Does anyone know if there is a crack or something that would have made the commands ineffective and if so is there any way to guard against anything like that happening again?

Thanks

Bel

btw forgot to mention.. the commands work fine on all other users it was just this particular one. He knew the ban commands wouldnt work on him and was basically taunting the admins with this

There are a few tricks I won't detail here that make certain names resistant to being kicked, for this reason I usually recommend my admins (also Ouka room, though i've seen the same thing in other rooms) use RoboMX to chat/admin with, this generally DOES eject such users.

As an alternate, the host can block the user's ip in his firewall, this will silence him & eventually the name will drop out.

Yes as Winmx has a problem kicking ppl with Illegal characters in their Nicks...RoboMX doest have this problem...

Also some of the spammers have discovered way to enter rooms without the 5 digit Identifier at the end of their name , so they don't show in userlist... Robomx will still kick them...

As Blunder has said I recommend to ALL admins to use RoboMX for their Admin duties and WinMX for trading....

The user entered the room like so:

12:52:58 merin865_00000 (DSL 12 files) has entered

The bot gave a welcome message recording the name like this

merin 172.162.168.190

The room has a 50 file minimum and the bot normally autoboots if a user has less, in this case it didnt work. This would tie in with the inconsistencies in the name characters.

Neither myself or the other admin were on robomx and tried to kick/ban from winmx so I can't say whether robo would have done the trick but in future I will be adminning from robo.

Bearded Blunder is there anywhere I can find out any more info on the tricks you mentioned, for interests sake?

Thanks to all  :)

I don't, I'm sure you understand, wish to post things that might give idiots ideas to disrupt rooms, however, as a host of a room for years now, I CAN say I've yet to encounter a user RoboMX couldn't kick, at least, not in any room patched against the continual rename bot

Blunder,

Thanks, I do understand that .. unfortunately there are way too many users out there just looking for that kind of opportunity and should have thought of that

Any ideas then where I can find out about the patch then ?

Thanks   :D

Continual rename thing is covered in room setup on Ouka (make sure rename block is set in management window), it's only an issue on older room servers now, I'd simply recommend that you try to talk your admins into using RoboMX.
