Tell Me Its Not True?
« on: February 02, 2006, 10:01:36 am »
I had a pm last night from a very highly trusted friend.
And to say the least its worried me a little
It said to the effect that a high court ruling had been made in the UK
That 10 isp providers have been told that they hae to give info on users who are using known P2P software?
Can anyone shed any light on this for me?
I would like to know where i stand with me isp (BULLDOG BROADBAND)
Any info on this would be great to help put my mind at ease one way or the other.

I havent seen anything specific on that, but here is a couple of links worth a look:

http://www.slyck.com/news.php?story=1070

and ofc if such a ruling should take place, they would most likely brag here:

http://www.bpi.co.uk/

That said, it wouldnt be the first time rumours like the one you mentioned have been spread about, do i think your friend is lieing? NO, i suspect part of the cartels tactic would be to circulate as many similar rumours as possible, it is ofc in their interest to do so.

i dont think this is anything to do with the bpi this was a ruling asking for the identities of people(companies)  sharing software i.e. computer program see the following link http://www.computerbuyer.co.uk/?news/news_story.php?id=83113s

This is the article I read a few days back Mac , following my policy of not doing the industries dirty work for them I didnt bother with running this one as it was for non-winmx and specifically mentioned software vendors only, not audio or visual types of file.

"Our technical specialist investigated file-sharing services such as Kazaa and eDonkey," said John Lovelock, FAST's director general. "Kazaa was the main service involved."

Lovelock said the FAST specialist was specifically searching for desktop software products published by the body's members, which include well-known multinational software firms.

"We only look at the UK on behalf of our members, even though some of them are multinational companies," he said.

Lovelock said that FAST did not investigate music or video file-sharing for the court order. FAST will be working with the British Police and Crown Prosecution Service to bring prosecutions once the individuals alleged to have committed software piracy have been identified.

I,m sure they do a good job for somebody
