Yes, I know.. someone edited their post and it made some reply posts look silly or unfounded.

Sorry but that's not a good enough reason not to allow a user to edit or delete a their own posts IMO.

The four corners rule handles that.  Judicious use of the 'Quote' feature preserves the relavant portion of a post being replied to.  So if a user later, accepts the info provided, they may go back and correct an error in their post.. which would be a good thing i think.  The posts is noted as being edited, but the quoted portion is preserved, so it doesn't make the reply look silly.

works for me.

you?

I voted for Yes, simply because, no matter how many times i preview, check, spell check etc, i still seem to find speeling mistikes and errors on` grammer; i would prefer to correct.

I think the ideal solution would be to allow editing of posts that hadn't been responded to, the forum tracks both views & replies, so it may be possible, though I know nothing about the site's construction, it may be prohibitively complex.

Most users are aware of this sites policy regarding editing and why it was brought into effect, not wishing to see a repeat of that, our policy will remain as it is.

For those who are not familiar with the particular incident a certain user would post , wait for replies and then edit their post to say something completely different , this caused upset and annoyance.

If you wish any of your posts to be edited or deleted please contact one of the admins here, who will see that any corretions are done in a helpful and fair manner.

I personally agree with the policy. I think it is a great idea. I have also taken the policy and incorporated it into my forum. Users should not be able to do that because of what GhostShip said. Editing and deleting will get out of hand and become very confusing. If we give it back then people will be editing and deleting and getting everyone confused and we will end up loosing users and our credibility.

Here's the thing..

We decided to allow guest posting, a decision I didnt like at the time, looking for quality posts, but have seen in the months that followed this really helped alot of folks that didnt want to login to get help or offer help either for that matter.  Its a policy.

The site is what it is, we are not here to make everyone happy, although I am glad to see the poll, and the opinions.  The fact is we decided long ago to disable users edit as policy, and since we never claimed this was a democracy, the policy will not be changed by a vote.  I am glad you posted it and your concerns/opinions.

The stem incident is on record but, I will not go through the multiple times since the policy has been also useful, just be aware its proved a good idea since  in many instances.

Its not a fair policy I agree, and if someone told anyone life is always fair, they lied to you.

I do not recall reading this forum much if at all during the so-called 'incident' so I don't recall the specifcs.

Was it anything like the user CoalDust on vladd's forum, who after making several unfounded, slanderous, libelous personal Ad Hominem attacks on another when he couldn't refute the topical facts, later went back more than 3 weeks later and removed the posts so as to erase the history of his "foaming at the mouth" rants?

Also, is it true that it is you, GhostShip, that uses the screenname CoalDust on vladd's forum, as some claim?

I didn't know either of these things before I first posted this poll and thread, having only discovered them in the last several hours.  But, if you are in fact the same as CoalDust, it makes your "our policy will remain as it is" statement seem a bit arrogant and hypocritical.

If they are wrong and you are not CoalDust, nevermind.

Perhaps you wish to inform users of the names you use on Vladds and the multiple names you use here ?

Even at the height of the trouble on Vladds site, we watch each others backs for industry trolls, so I know exactly who you are.

Have a nice day  :D

Coaldust,

I resent the implication that you and I have shared ANY information to the id of GnarlySnarly.

I have no idea if there is a match or not.

But from reading your comment:

I would bet money we had a specific discussion about the matter, yet according to my records. Four one liners and 3 pms via forum since November 11th last year is what I recall.

Since when does the word 'we' = Vladd and someone?

Do you resent that it wasnt a conversation with you?  Even if you have no desire to commucate with us Vladd for the good of all, others thankfully still do.

Now this has to do with editing posts how?  Lets stick to the subject, this is a WinMx forum in site comments.. Not whos posting where talking about it to whom.

Good to see you still know where we are at least tho V..

Considering the subject matter, Of cource I cannot say with absolute certainty that I am the we.....BUT, I would be at a loss on how to structure that sentence otherwise.

at least you have confirmed that you do at least read every thread on this forum (if you only read the ones with specific types of subjects then you wouldn't have come to this one, so you must read them all)

i have been assigned the boring task of reading all your posts, so vladd doesn't have to.
