uploads time out & connection problems

Hello all, long time casual user of WinMX,

Right now I have a few problems, one being Uploads time out, searches get few results and chat only brings up one if any rooms at a time. seams like I have a poor connection to the network,

A few months ago I started having the Upload problem, I switch winMX TCP and UDP to passive mode (unable to accet incoming…..) and that fixed the uploads, at the time I was running standard WinMX and the early host file fix

Got on WinMX a few days ago and it would make a connection on the network page (secondary) but searches gave no results and no one was uploading (not just timing out but no one was even showing up to try).

Today I have been working with it following the tips here, so far I have:
Tried the MXPIE fix, some improvement in searches but UL’s still time out and no successful DL’s either.  
Went back to a stock Host file,
flushed the DNS
Uninstalled WinMX and installed WinMX using the 1.9 installer  from here
Installed PG2

Have same issues,

I would like to try to use the “listen for incoming conections on…….” Box but after trying it using different ports I still have the same problems. When connecting primary I get primary connections (P=7) but no secondary connections (S=0) spm’s in the thousands (not sure what this number means)

It seams like my incoming ports are being blocked by something.

I am down to one computer right now so no router and it is hooked directly to the modem a Motorola Surfboard 4200, I run sygate personal firewall and WinMX is alloyed as always, turning off sygate makes no change. windows firewall is turned off (WIN Xp SP2 w/ all updates)

My ISP is Newnan utilities, a city owned co-op of sorts, I have their cable internet service,

Their connections are usually heavily fire walled but I pay extra for their “static IP” service witch as I understand it tunnels to a public server on the other side of their firewall, this has worked fine in the past.

 Are there any tools that I can use to test my connection that mimic WinMX type traffic? tracert and ping show exerything is OK,

I have been doing some research into your situation here, great post by the way.
I would like to know what ports you have tried, and yes there are a few ways to test ports, although the UDP ports even when open with most of the online tests still come back as stealth.  If you dont have an S= number tho its more then likely a blocked TCP, and usually this would include both TCP and UDP.

UDP really only affects browse, pm, and whois issues mostly.

Now as for your Modem this model doesnt seem to support NAT, so no forwarding of ports should be necessary from what I could find on it.

Sygate is simple and straight forward, its either allowed or not, so should be ok there.

XP firewall can be tricky, and all I can say about that is be sure you have physically checked its off, its got a bad habit of enabling itself with updates and other strange reasons.

Norton Antivirus is about the only other thing I can think of that could block completely your ports.  The worm protection in the AV they have in 2005 + has to have WinMx in the Permit all sections to work.

Your ISP has not made the internet news anywhere for blocking or filtering p2p ports that I can see, although it is usually cable companies that like to rob thier customers.

Non conventional ports maybe what we have to use in order to get around it, it could be that its just not widely known about.

This is a small list of possible ports to try, if your ISP is doing any filtering some of these may get around it.

Regardless with the ports set to Unable you should get good search results most of the time, this is how I am set and when I have days that I dont get results well, I usually am able to just reset my connection and join a different primary and find this helps most of the time.  It can take a few trys though.
