UK DJ's now require license's, wtf??

It would seem, having purchased a CD, to actually then condense music down into a usable format u need a license, so let me get this right, DJ's effectively promote music, many venue customers will ask for track names etc, therefore a DJ is promoting music, thats plain to see, NOW it would seem they will have to pay for the privilage of promoting this music?

This stinks, pay for the CD's, they then want money from the DJ's to be able to actually use the music on the format they wish to, and ofc the venues are already being charged a hefty amount for a music and dancing license.

A prime example it would seem Nobby, much as they would like the public to think there are thousands of "rogue" djs running a show from mp3 systems this just is not the case.

I think the dj should be exempted from this stealth tax as you quite rightly point out the public performance aspect has already been paid for and why should a dj not have the same rights as a normal consumer who had paid to publicly play the same music.

Greed and more greed, when will it stop ?
