Hello, I am new 2 WinMX - about 3days-(28thAug2006) My OS - Windows XP Pro sp2, FireWall is McAfee Personal Firewall Plus. This is my Problem - I can download, but, others can't down load from me, unless, I add their IP address to my trusted IP list. This can B a major Problem, as Most people don't even know wot IP means, let alone wot it is. Even wen they do, it is not 2B given lightly. I do not want 2 uninstall my firewall. But fear this may B the only solution. Also I have had a look at sum of the other posts and several seem 2 have problems with setting up the ports, ie: the TCP and UDP ports in particular. Wot R they & Y R they important? Y isn't there a patch or Program that can set them automatically, so we don't mess things up? Thankyou 4 ur time. silvraro.

The first time it should have asked if you wanted to allow/deny WinMX, if you did deny by accident (or only allow partial access) then right-click the McAfee Security Center icon in your system tray and select Personal Firewall followed by Internet Applications. This should bring up McAfee's Internet Applications window that lists each application that has either been granted or denied access to the Internet. In there you should be able to allow WinMX full access.

It did not not ask 4 acess I had 2 do it manuallty aniway, so am still in same boat, ty 4 ur input. WinMX, HAS got full access. Is there any other support services, apart from TCP/IP Traceroute Command tracert.exe & TCP/IP Ping Command Ping.exe both have full access, that I shud allow access2?

It sounds to me like your jumping in to the wrong areas and too deep , lets keep this simple if we can

Winmx has default ports of 6699 TCP and 6257 UDP, your firewall should ask you if the application is allowed to speak to the outside world and you should at this point confirm it is and there is usually a tick box to say something like no need to ask again, at this point thats what we want to do.

It should now not say anything more about the app you have allowed.

If you've already done all that and are fighting with it, what I advise is that you delete winmx from the firewalls list and then restart winmx so you can tell it what your wishes are when it detects it trying to connect out again, you will need to make sure the firewalls options are set to inform you of any activity and that it is set to normal mode rather than any high security setting if it has one.

I did a search 4 IP rel8ed files & found and allowed full acess 2 these files; ipv6.exe ping6.exe ipxroute.exe pathping.exe then restarted Winmx 3.53 with patch3.0 via the wizard, now every thing seems to B ok. TY 4 your help & hope this helps others.

probably more to do with going through the winmx wizard, it would have detected any firewall blocks and set you as passive which would sort of cure the symptom of uploads not working (but leave you unable to exchange files with others who can not accept inbound connections)

as long as it's sorted anyway...

It suddenly became unstable agen, I Uninstalled winMX3.53 +patch3.0. then re-installed it, It stops halfway thru installation, and won't start again til I've manually allowed it full access, it now won't allow me primary access, because, it says, no TCP or UDP ports available. Having sed that my ISP is AOL, and it seems 2 B very unstable at the moment, cud this B acontributing factor?
