Winmx connecting when its not started

Winmx tries to connect to the interent even when its not open. (Yes I have closed it properly) I now have my firewall blocking winmx, but its strange that it still tries to connect, when its not even listed in the Task manager processes list. Anyone else experiencing this, or know why this happens? Is there any knwon worms/Viruses that uses winmx as a gate?

Can you determine wether it's incoming or outgoing connections?
And does this happen when you haven't been running winmx before?
It's possible that other clients simply are still trying to reach you, I've seen this myself many times on Peerguardian.
