Please please HELP with inconsistent d/l performance!
« on: April 03, 2006, 06:35:00 pm »
I really do not understand.  I've been with WinMX through the good times and the bad.  I've spent many of the small hours in frustration getting nowhere.  I've also had 20+ simultaneous d/l.  At one point, overnight I could d/l two or three movies and half a dozen albums.  Now I don't know what is happening!

Every single u/l times out.  Yes, every single one.  If I go on and set up some searches and they come back fine but they all seem to time out.  If I leave it on overnight I get some d/l completed but the vast majority time out.  Obviously I am connecting.  It's not a firewall or port problem. What can it be?

I'm using 3.53 with MX monitor on a steady 4MB connection.  Please help!!!

if you are behind a router then it could be something as simple as your LAN IP Address changing, which would mean having to change the port forwarding to the new IP Address it has changed to, check that your LAN IP Address has changed (if that is the case then setting a static one might be a good idea to stop it happening again in future) if not then there are a few other things to check, but that is the most common problem people have so best to start there...

Hi,  I suspect your problems are the result of your ISP introducing packet / traffic shaping. They inspect the data packet headers and are probably downgrading the bandwith available to p2p programs.

I'm suffering with the same WinMX problem and it also impacted my bittorrent throughput (but not http). I've sorted the torrent by switching to the Azureus client as this supports header encryption. As the headers can't be recognised by the ISP they're let through at normal priority. Finding an ISP that doesn't do this shaping is one option but to fix WinMX longer-term it will need to encrypt.
