For the first time, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has issued a warning recommending that Microsoft Windows users download the latest security patch to protect themselves against vulnerabilities that could allow attackers to remotely take control of their computers.Without the patch, hackers can remotely install programs on a computer; view, change, and delete data; and create new user accounts with full user rights.Microsoft issued the latest patch, known as Security Bulletin MS06-040, on Tuesday as part of its regular Patch Tuesday update program. The fixes included a dirty dozen different fixes, including nine that the Redmond software giant labeled as “critical.”
