There are 3 or 4 versions of LeecHammer floating about.

You need one of the later versions if you are using winmx v3.53 or v3.54

IIRC, you need v 1.2 for these newer winmx versions.  v1.2 is merely v1.1 modded to accept the later versions of winmx. No other improvements that I know of.

If you have v1.1, it will not detect the newer winmx versions.

My advice - Avoid v 1.2a [.exe = 600 KB] - it was a beta release and has some neat new features, but also some new bugs, at least one quite critical.

Unfortunately the archives here only have v 1.1 and the ZIP file is not labeled with the version number.

My ZIP of v1.2 is 2.49 MB (2,554 KB) (2,614,716 Bytes)

The internal LeecHammer.exe is the exact same size for both versions - [508 KB - 520,192 Bytes] - since it was a simple hex edit fix to the routine that looked for the winmx version number.

V1.1 exe file is dated 6/9/2003
v1.2 exe is dated 7/19/2004

Hey Ritchie ,i hate those guys too. Sometimes i would text the person asking why he or she is not sharing ,most people were credible in thier answers ,and some just told me to F**k Off . I would block them and sometimes when i had really nothing to do , i would check if the person had anything to share, and if not, wait for them to start uploading for a few minutes and cut them off,i was my kind of payback i guess..lol

I have noticed a great many leechers have the privicy settings on Max so you can not message them, that really sucks as it suggests that they have been leeching for a long time and have got fed up with generous file sharing people asking them to share there downloads when they get them from us.

Now if my message is returned un read I instantly hammer them for the rest of that session.   Some openly boast online on ways to defeat Leechamer and MXMonitor software.   eeek what can you do with SOB's like that?
Kind regards,   Tom.

One leecher threatened to me that he would send me a virus. You can't really do that can you? Send a file to someone else's computer through winmx. I am not sure on this. I know you can hack into someone else's compuer. But i am a bit concerned as he might know my IP address that's all.
I now use Mxmoniter to stop all of this.
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)
Patch link :

Spread the word now :)

No, he can't send anything to you through WinMX, the only way would be through a security hole in windows or another program running on your PC. But remember that most security holes that are to worry about have already been used in worms, such as the RPC security hole and the blaster worm for example. If your PC is still virus free and working, you don't have any such security issues, so I assume he's just a kid using his parents' internet connection coming with threats he can't back up to scare you. Nothing to worry about  :D

I was going to download and install Leechammer but a friend who did so got the message that WinMx isn't running (when it was) as, Isee, others have had.  We both use WinMX v3.54 beta 4

Then I read above about MXMonitor and later versions of Leechammer.

Can I use both of these programs simultaneously or will they conflict with each another?  If they won't conflict, would there be any advantage in using both?  If they don't conflict, is one better than the other with the 3.54 beta 4 version of WinMX?

Any advice gratefully received.

there is a bug that appears with winmx when either mxmonitor or leechhammer check the winmx window so running both at the same time would cause this bug to appear much sooner - however there is no need to run both as mxmonitor has the options to do eveything leechhammer does (plus of course the other extra things it does too)

Your friend did not have the right version of Leechammer

For winmx v 3.53 and v3.54, use Leechammer v 1.2
http://httpss://archive.winmxworld.com/LeecHammer/LeecHammer%201.2%20(For%20WinMX%203.53)%20-%20120704.zip

You can use both Leechammer and mxmonitor together and will get the best results if you do.

The basic leech test function in mxmonitor is broken, buggy so LH picks up the slack.

Each does a few things the other does not.  i.e. LH can clear excessive download requests from the queue without a total clear and ignore.  LH can open extra slots of UL bandwidth is sitting idle.  LH double checks periodically for zero or minimal sharers MxM misses because it often does the whois test on the wrong user.  MxM can auto-start friends and small files.

properly configured, running both can really help maximize UpLoads and filter leeches quite well.  I have run both under win98 1st and 2nd, and wp with no problems [though setting the LH check interval too low on win98 causes memory/resource issues which require more frequent rebooting]

Cheers for making a note of the correct LH version Gnarly  8)

I havent the time to check all the archive versions and this will be of benefit to others facing the same problems.

I must say, I find it ironic that someone complains about "leechers" here.... taking something for nothing in return..... on a program designed to do EXACTLY THAT from recording artists, record companies and the like.

Please do not get me wrong, I am against what the RIAA and others are doing, how natzi-afied they have become and if I want to share my music with someone else I should be able to - end of story.

But with every opportunity comes some disadvantages.  I think we are ALL leechers to a degree...

The program was designed for file sharing and does just that.

It is for each user of the program to decide what they wish to share and to take responsibility for sharing files that they may not own the copyright to, each person has a choice in the matter

The 26 Billion profit last year acheived by the recording industry is indicative of the fact that their products are in 99% of cases paid for by the consumer.

Although  many use p2p to sample music before purchase as the recording industries own figures show, its not about money its about power to control the methods of distribution, like drug barons, the" recording industry cartel" ( a term used by the US federal authorities ) seeks to control the market and monopolise existing and future musical talent,  anything that threatens that stranglehold is attacked vigorously with paid-for sound bites, ignorant reporters and those who are employed in the industry and rely on enslaving future talent for their living.

The figures speak for themselves, profits of 26 billion a year show the cartel is awash with money gained from being the middleman in a monopoly market that extorts artist and consumer alike.

We own the rights to our own material and I certainly am not prepared to ceed any ground to the theives that try buy legitimacy with a lawsuit who wish to close my method of distribution that they do not own and cannot buy.

File sharing is 100% legal folks, so lets share.
