RIAA - More Flawed Statistics

Do they never give up trying to mislead folks with statistics that if presented in a court would see them sent to jail for fraud  :x

If you visit the Key Stats/Facts page on the RIAA website, you'll notice a justification for pricing Cd's. The biggest argument appears to be the fact that the Consumer Price Index rose nearly 60 percent between 1983 and 1996, even though the price of a CD actually went down. While this might be a true statement, this is virtually worthless in determining how much a CD should cost.

The CPI is useful for looking at the prices of raw material, grocery items, etc. Sorry RIAA, but buying a CD isn't like buying a bushel of Korn.

There are some comparisons on the web page listed above to demonstrate the authors point but what we are basically seeing is that the RIAA feels your too stupid to know that vast improvements in Cd manufacturing processes means now that most Cd's cost them less than 5 cents to make ( 3 pence) and probably a similar amount for the cover, in the early days there was a lot of loss with the reflective layer splattering used on the disk, many where rejected prior to pressing, that was solved 20 years ago and they made no effort to pass on those saving to the consumer, unless the cost of their raw materials goes up I see no reason to allow them to steal once again from their previous victims.
Feel free to check out the price of a blank CDr to confirm how cheap disks are, and remember they purchase them by the million, economy of scale comes into play .

And also the cost of the covers and the burning can hardly be equal the cost of the cd itself, considering the fact that they are made in such huge volumes...

Cheers :P
