New computer, same issue.
« on: June 18, 2006, 12:02:47 pm »
Hi there,
i'm an old user of winmx. Love it but have had a display issue with it since i started using it on different computers and with different versions.
Ok here goes with the technical bits first.
My comp is as follows (Brand new, very expensive):

AMD Athlon 4800+ Dual core CPU
Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe Gaming Motherboard
4 Gig DDR3 Ram
X2 Geforce 6600GT Extreme 128Mb Graphics Cards (SLI)
Raptor 37G System drive + 3X 250G Data drives
Dual 19' TFT AVIDAV Active Matrix Monitors
Windows XP home
Bulldog 8Meg broadband connection

I'm running WinMX v3.54 beta 4 with the patches

Ok all is running well. No problems with the comp at all. The issue is this, when i leave WinMX running for say 12 hours (it often runs for days on end) the screen stops showing what in the download list untill i ask it to find sources. The screen then refreshes for a few minutes before reverting back to not showing anything. Now this has been fine in the past (its been happening on all of my computers before this one with various versions of WinMX) but now with the new dual monitor set-up its effecting the other screen too. Things are ghosted on the second screen and windows are not refreshing that have nothing to do with winMX.

I hope somebody out there can help me with this one. I often work as WinMX is running in the background and this is getting very annoying. So much so i'm thinking of switching to another download program which i'd rather not.
I look forward to hearing what you guys have to say on this one as i've not been able to find anything about it from anywhere on the net.
Cheers
Phil

are you using leech hammer or mxmonitor? there is a bug in windows XP with constantly opening and closing windows (they keep opening/closing whois windows whilst running) that will cause memory leaks and that causes the display for all programs to start acting up

if that is the case then try the fix microsoft released, you can get it from https://www.winmxworld.com/files/WindowsXP-KB319740-v5-x86-ENU.exe (note: only if you have service pack 2 installed on your XP - they do not have one for other XP versions)

Thanks for that.
I'm using MXMonitor but have tried it without and the same thing happens. I've monitored the system during use over extended periods and there are no spikes with the CPU or memory. CPU rarely exceeds 10% on one of the cores never mind the second. Thanks though for the link, i didn't know that patch existed. Good to know.
Thanks
phil
