A patch to use the menu key: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menu_key would be nice in making winmx operable by keyboard only,
especially when scrolling through a long list of search results. You could just hit "menu key" then hit "d" and the download starts, and voila! No more finicky "did i double click that file or not? it didn't change color, plus the cursor focus changed or the program froze" consternation.

A less important featured I've always wanted was I wish I could search for mp3 files that are only vbr, ie not 128,224,320.

Also, is anyone going to clone winmx or try to reverse engineer a new client. I think a distributed hash table would help for rare files.

Frontcode technologies never released the source code for winmx. So you can't do anything to change it. You can't reverse engineer it or do anything of that kind to it.

I wanted someone to patch the winmx program to filter and show only search results that aren't 32,64,80,96,112,128,160,192,224,256,320. Variable bit rate files.

Not a link site.

See the image below. I want to only see those results, is that possible.

Well, you can set winmx to search for bitrates which are atleast equal to, say 128. That can reduce the number of results you get...

I think you'll probably find the best workaround for the time being (and forseeable future) is the one you're using in that screenshot.. sort results by bitrate, that way at least VBR tracks are grouped together.

The protocol does support variable bitrate information but as you have guessed the winmx client is the block to progress.

Perhaps a new client could incorporate the features you wish but, that will depend on someone doing the development work, to date we have not seen anyone willing to take on this task, but if a group could be raised I,m sure progress would fly along as there are enough beta testers and knowledgable users to locate any flaw in a matter of hours
