Requirements to host a cache:
1. A stable well performing connection (no lag, no continuous outages etc)
2. A stable system on 24/7 (not crashing all the time)
3. Cache Software

I would further add a little something to that list, the trust of the community, I,m sure many would be unhappy with potentially allowing their IP,s to be logged by folks who they have never heard of.

if you mean am i going to hand over my peer cache software to anyone who wants it? no

there is no need for it, and it would just drive users away from winmx

"here's a hosts file to use my cache, use that because it's great"... causing more flooding, followed by 2 weeks later "ok I'm bored now, turning off the cache"... and a load of users thrown off of winmx most of them will not then return

just look at the pie lot, they irresponsibly threw tens of thousands of users off of winmx because they couldn't be bothered, i managed to get thousands of those back but thousands more have left winmx forever now because of their reckless actions

having more immature idiots like sabre around cutting off thousands of users because they got bored or because they didn't get their way or whatever else is not going to help winmx

sure there could be a few decent caches as a result of that, but they wouldn't help much as they aren't needed... and you can guarantee that there would be a lot of "make your winmx completely dependent on my dynamic IP Address staying the same and my windows XP system that mum makes me turn off every night being online" type things

You could go talk to Pie team, they're probably pretty desperate for someone to run an additional cache, however, they have an additional requirement that you have a static IP address, and effectively a spare computer to run it on, as the software AFAIK won't run under windows, and in either case running routine PC stuff on a "mission critical" server is a bad idea.  Ideally a cache should run a minimal operating system & the cache software with only sufficient extras to maintain the system & keep the cache running.  I strongly doubt KM's caches even run a GUI, it would waste resources & dramatically reduce their capacity.

However, someone willing to meet that & the other requirements, & have it listed in Pie's hosts file for all to use, would probably be provided with the software by them.
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.

I must give you some credit for your persistance, I also like the fact that you have bothered to ask instead of trying to bluff like some others, the guy your talking about was Drac and he make a self connection tool, this is not built for use as a cache itself but was extremely helpful in gathering the fine details and some of the code tables for use in the Caches,.
The pie team member in charge of most things is Jim and he will help you if he thinks your offer is serious, but please bear in mind, most of the Cache  operators are well known to each other and have been for years, we would not be happy to see any strangers running this important part of joining the network.

Unfortunately I have no way of confirming that fact and I certainly have never heard of you before your post.

Anyway If your serious drop Jim a message and he will perhaps make a decision on whether you are able to help.
