Won't connect
« on: November 14, 2006, 07:01:03 am »
Hi, please, please help!  I used to use WinMX all the time but have started a new job and WinMX just will not connect here.  I have downloaded the patch and the other thing in the help files but even that doesn't help.  What else can I do?  I am desperate to use WinMX and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

from a corporate network?

do you have internet access there? many corporate networks do not allow internet access and merely have a HTTP proxy to allow you to request web pages but nothing else, if that is the case then you will not be able to use any p2p software there

a simple test would be to try opening a command prompt and running "telnet cache0.winmxgroup.com 7950" which will test if you are able to connect out - if you are able to then you are probably able to use winmx if you have the patch correctly installed (although on a satellite connection it is likely that file transfers will be very unreliable due to delays and also due to the tendency to filter on them)

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.  Yes, I have internet access, in fact, in desperation I have downloaded Imesh and that seems to be working although it is not as good as WinMX - we are on a satellite connection, maybe that is the problem but surely it should at least connect?

did you try the telnet to the cache? - it should come up with a load of data (which will look like junk)
