Author Topic: winmx crashes my internet connection - any help appreciated (Read 1346 times)

Every few hours my WinMX connection dies... but not only that, it kills my entire internet connection and I have to reboot my computer. This has only been happening for the past three months.

My Hardware:
Intel P4 3.2Ghz
L2 Cache: 1024Kb
Memory: 2048 MB
Motherboard: Dell OU7077
Cable modem: Arris model TM402P

My Software:
WinMX 3.54beta
MXMonitor 1.28
Windows XP Pro SP2
Norton Internet Security 2006 with Norton Firewall (configured to let WinMX go)

Im curious what patch your using, are you using peerguardian, and if you have a modem or router with this set up?

Have a look at your Eventviewer ("%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s") and try to find entries corresponding to date and time of your connection losses.

Especially look for events with event-id 4226. If there are any, your Problem is caused by SP2 connection-limit. There is a patch available to get around this at http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads.

If not, your problem could be Router-related, if you have one.

I very much doubt that the SP2 connection limit would have any effect at all on winmx, you would literally have to start more than 10 downloads at once for it to ever effect winmx - the most pending connections you could possibly have would be 13-14, if you had primary in the process of connecting, at the same time as having a lot of opennap servers trying to connect... and even then the effects would just be a few of them failing and having to retry

Most of the time with the entire connection dropping it is either a driver issue with the network card, or in some rare cases I have heard of routers crashing when you run MX on primary (although not as often as they crash with other p2p networks that use a lot of connections)
