ok ok.. any other mp3 playing software -but- windows media player (altho version 6.4 is semi-ok anything newer is ridiculous)... realplayers mp3 routines leave a bit to be desired as well....
for a better list of software to compare to winamp try these;
winplay3 (altho very very old (so old that there is a windows 3.1 version available) this was written by the ppl that
invented mp3... you will have to google to find it)
foobar2000 (this uses the mpglib decoder... the same thing used by the decoding stage of lame and linux's xmms and mpg123... found at
http://www.foobar2000.org/ this is by far the best example to use for comparison..)
sonique (this one went completely bye bye when lycos was bought by an asian company but it can still be found in software archives... you will need to google for this one as well.... note: use version 1.96; the 2.xx series is being made/maintained by another group now... note2; the provided ogg decoder in 1.96 was written before vorbis RC2 and will not play new vorbis files... look for nics rc2 vorbis plugin if you plan on making common use of sonique)
there is
also a winamp plugin that replaces the default mp3 decoder with mpglib called in_mpg123 ... it is rather scarce these days so it will definitely need to be googled...
tell me what you think...
