uploads timing out
« on: August 12, 2006, 01:46:38 pm »
Hi, for a little while now Ive been able to download ok, but everytime someone tries to download off me they timeout  - but there were no problems before. I want to be able to share, so any solutions?

I've tried all the suggestions adding ports & the firewall settings but nothing seems to work.

I dont think its my ISP as I've recently changed address and ISP provider and there is the same problem.

cheers

Hi wannasharebutcant

If you had 'rules' already set to allow ports in a router and this happened it may be a case that your Internal IP that the router directs traffic may have changed.  You can check by doing this

Click Start > Run >  Type in     cmd
Then click OK
Now in the black box type this        ipconfig
THen click enter key.

Look for your Default IP address listed there, then go to your router configuration page and see if the IP is listed the same as shown where your ports are set in it.

If this doesnt seem to help post back to us and we'll see about other possible reasons.  Most common being a perviosly unused (disabled) XP Firewall as enabled itself with updates and blocked the upload.

You can go to www.portforward.com and see there. I think it is listed there as to what settings are to be seen in your router. Or best see the manual that comes along with the router. It will surely be given there, what you want...

Do tell what happened.

Cheers :P

please make sure that winmx is allowed in your firewall, in norton worm protection if you use norton anti virus, & that ports are forwarded in your modem/router

www.portforward.com has good instructions for most routers

alternatively you could try this patch which is in beta testing & forwards ports in many cases automatically, please be aware this should at present only be used by people not using open nap, as there is currently a small bug

*edit link to no longer available beta patch installer removed  BB

Hi Me Here

really sorry I havent replied sooner, I was waiting techie help from a friend (I'm rather IT illerate)...Thanks for the help, for some reason it has just started working again.

I cant really shed any light on why, although I did do that thing with start up, so maybe that changed something?

Who knows (I certainly dont)

But thx very much again :)

I am having problems with uploads timing out. I have windows XP, DSL, WinMX3.54 using secondary connection. I have tried allowing ports in XP firewall that match those on WinMX. I have even turned off the firewall and disabled Norton but still does not allow uploads. Any suggestions?

If you use Norton AV please look in our tutorials section for how to allow winmx there, or pop into the help chatroom (WinMxWorld.com Help_3F1FAF500666) & speak to someone there

I have Norton 2006, the tutorial has 05, and is set up different. I turned off Norton firewall and turned XP back on. No change. I tried to do a static IP address and when I changed it on my computer I could not access my router or any internet to change it there

if you are setting all of your computers to static IPs then run cmd > ipconfig /all, then copy all of the settings over exactly, if it doesn't connect after doing that then check for typos somewhere.

If you are only setting 1 to a static IP and leaving the others on automatic then do the same copying it all over, except the IP Address, change the last digit by 50 or so, so if it's 192.168.0.2 then change it to 192.168.0.52 or if it's 192.168.1.100 then set it to 192.168.1.150 etc, just to make sure it's not close to the others (or one of the other computers might get automatically given that IP Address, 2 computers with the same IP Address is never good)
