dsl problems
« on: August 01, 2006, 12:04:17 am »
Hello guys.  I recently switched from Comcast cable to MSN dsl.  WinMX worked fine with the cable, but now, with the dsl, I get time outs on ul and dl's.  I changed settings to 300, etc.  Still all time outs.  They don't even start to dl.  I have the same firewall, Norton.  I have recently installed v 3.54 with patch, and the header in mx says Patch Operational.  I am running XP with SP2.  Thanks

Hi Waterboy,

Often times with DSL you have a modem that may need configured for WinMX, this may be the case for you also..

If you would like you can go to
http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm   There you can look for your Model and Number of Modem and see if its there.. if it is more then likely you will have to configure it for MX.. just click it, then scroll down to the WinMX application and click that.. follow the instructions there.

You may also have to remove WinMX from your Firewall and readd it now since the update, many firewalls will block applications that have changed for your protection from hijacking.  Try these things and if you still have troubles post back here or you can visit us in the help room on WinMX at

WinMxWorld.com Help_3F1FAF50FFFF   enter that into the filter bar and click Join on the right for help there.

You may need to forward ports. Please go to www.portforward.com to see your router model and find out how to forward ports on winmx .
Alternatively, you can try out the new winmx patch that will automaticially forward ports in many routers

Did you put winmx in the allow list. You can try to remove it and put it again. Plus you may need to forward ports in norton too...
Do tell what happened

Cheers :P

Harry, you say you use norton firewall, yet did you disable MS's firewall built into xp? You may need to allow winmx in that firewall too.

If you have norton, then you do get the option to disable the windows firewall in the installation.
I suggest you disable the windows firewall if you have the norton one. Having two firewalls can create a mess.

Cheers :P
