do you have a japanese keyboard etc on a japanese computer? or are you trying to copy/paste from somewhere?

if you are copy/pasting then it depends on the character set used by the other program you are copying from, it should be using shift_jis, and not unicode/UTF8/whatever (many things use standard "universal" character sets like those to support many languages, winmx uses whatever your system is set to)

you might want to read the post at https://forum.winmxworld.com/index.php?topic=3595.msg21651#msg21651 which has further details on being able to paste in shift_jis

you have to have your systems character set set to shift_jis to be able to use japanese in winmx (winmx uses whatever your system is set to), i assume you have it set to that? if not then you need to change it to that (in control panel... also messes up some fonts in things though, nothing you can do about that), if you do then you should be able to use japanese as long as you are not trying to use UTF-8 or any other character set (if you use anything except shift_jis it will fail)
