timing out problems
« on: December 13, 2006, 04:01:57 am »
Once connected I have no problems searching, but when it comes to downloading it always times out after about 30 sec.   This happens with any file all of the time and with uploads as well.   I  looked into port forwarding and routers,  but my router brand is not on their list.  Is there anything else I can try?  Any ideas would be helpfull and appreciated!

This sounds like its possibly your ISP (Service Provider) throttling your speeds.

What is the name and model of your router ?
Who is your ISP?

All I can find on my router is   Tranzeo Wireless Technologies  Inc.     TR-SUR-001
My ISP is called FiberNet and I just use IE Explorer for my browser.

You have a wireless interet connection.... (google tells me that the router you specified is for wireless connections)
Unfortunately wireless service providers are notorious for throttling P2P :(

if you go in to the winmxworld help chat room then do some tests then we should be able to tell for sure if there is an ISP problem

...it actually sounds more like just router not being configured with uploads timing out though, although downloads should be fine if that's the problem... but a test with someone else will be able to confirm what the problem is

Hi shindig

If you go into to your chat tab up the top next to search and copy and paste the room name into the address section. Than click join after that you will come into the room.

Ok,  Now I'm really confused!  Is there supposed to be a chat tab here on the Winmx world somewhere,  because I have none.  or are you talking about the chat on winmx itself?  Because when i go into chat there all I get is a list of rooms to join, which all look to be created by people for entertainent purposes only, not help.  So, am I just missing something or just overlooking something?
Thanks to everyone for all the help!

Click the chat button next to search and put this in the filter bar:
WinMxWorld.com Help_3F1FAF500666
Then click join.
If nothing happens after 10 secs or so, then check for spaces in the end which should not be there

Also note:
All rooms in winmx are not for solely entertainment purposes only.

Cheers :P

there is no filter bar on my chat screen.  I can't type anything anywhere on the chat screen unless I am in a room. When I click chat it just starts listing rooms, I can only pick from these rooms by right clicking on the room name and choosing enter room.

this tells me you're using winmx 3.31, in which case simply wait for the rooms to finish listing, select the help room & click join.. or consider upgrading to 3.53 or 3.54 which do have the filter
