i seem to remember something about trimming file causing a problem with winmx showing it's current size, i'd recommend looking in windows explorer at the actual file (right click > properties) & check the actual size, if this increases after a period, hopefully all is well.

I've often found that you need to clear the file from your transfer window frist and reload again with "load incompletes" afterwards.
I think that makes Winmx read the files size again or something, give it a try, can't hurt :-)

hi infrontofputer,

When this is happening to a file there have been times that its nearly impossible to save it and I've had to start over with the download.. but others this tool have worked on.  It is necessary to trim the file.. without the end tag anything your adding is just usually corrupted anyway.. so i suggest you trim this file with this tool below, you may find you have to trim to the last place WinMX actually saved and it could be well bigger then the 500 k, in any case trim with this tool small bits as you did with WinMX (the suggested amounts are on the tutorial) until it either works again or its so small starting over doesn't sound bad.

Not trying to scare ya, I'm pretty sure with such a large files this trim tool and removing slightly larger increments will work ..

Just a suggestion... Preview the section of the file that had the problem to see if the file is ok or not.
If it is not, then you'll find that out only after you have downloaded the whole file.

Cheers :P

hi everyone - I'm not sure if anyone else is aware or had this problem before (or if I'm posting this message in the proper section of WinMX forum) - I tried downloading a file and a message box popped up saying "the total character length of the path of the file you're trying to create is too long" (meaning that the file name was too long in order to be downloaded) - it would be nice if the file name was shorter so we can download them  or if anyone can tell me how to get around this - thanks

Example - mary chapin carpenter & shawn colvin - one cool remove (live at kate wolf memorial music festival, black oak ranch, laytonville, ca, 29.6.03).mp3

Downlaod a file wth a shorter name.
Or you can manually change the filename as well, via the library.
You can also try to relocate the downloads folder to a shorter loaction
eg
d:\
instead of
d\program files\winmx\downloads
or something like that
windows has a max file size length of 256 characters which includes the path and the extenstion

Cheers :P
