Hi everyone...

I did a search (out of frustration) to see if I could find anything on winmx and bang!...there it was...I had no idea it was back...I'm totally elated...!

Great forum too...I'm having a problem with accepting a TCP connection...I'll post this in a more appropriate thread of course...unless someone here wants to tell me what it is    ...and what to do about it...   :roll:

Hi Welcome to the site
If you have a router, then go to www.portforward.com and see your router model there.
A turorial on how to forward ports for winmx will be given there.
Alternatively, if you do not use opennap, then you can install the 3.1 beta patch. It will automaticially forward ports on most routers.

Also remember to allow winmx in any firewalls that you might have.

The site guided me through the winmx settings to activate a couple of boxes.... I think I'm all set now...

Sorry to start a new thread on this...I thought you may not check back in the old one since I made it sound like I had it all under control... 

I had all the steps completed forwarding from the web site you gave me...but at the very end it wouldn't work because both my DNS server numbers are the same...It says I need an alternate number which I don't have...

Can you cure me..?...  :shock:

you don't need 2 DNS servers, if you only have 1 now then using just 1 is the same as you are right now

however 2 DNS servers is always better as if one fails then everything goes down, and to be honest a DNS server is such a simple thing that can be put on to any spare computer laying around (even for large ISPs the resource usage is negligible) so for an ISP to only have 1 is rather silly of them considering the small effort required for a backup

...but yes, if you just use the 1 then it will be just the same as you currently are if you only have 1 set, although it wouldn't hurt for you to get a backup DNS Server from your ISP (or if they don't have a second, suggest they set one up, benefiting all customers with very little effort)
