Sharing beyond 5000
« on: December 31, 2006, 03:35:24 pm »
I recently learned that a primary connection only allows you to share 5000 files. Since my library is close to 8500 files, browsing my files will end in "P". I've had users ask for certain files which I have, but are above "P". Is there a way to share the 5000 files from "Z" backwards, or at least is there a way to send files that aren't in the browse list to users that ask for them?

You can use a tool called plus mx. It will open up more than one copy of winmx. In that way, you can share your files...
Keep one as primary and the rest as secondary.

Alternatively, you can connect to opennap servers where there is no limit to the number of files you can share.

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

HI Jerry390,

Let me clarify a few things for folks ..

You can share as many files as you want.  If i browse you with a secondary connection, I will only see 3000, if I browse you with a primary connection I will only see 5000.

In order for other users to know what your complete browse is there are a couple options, but keep in mind searches for all of your files work fine.  Searches however are not a reliable way to find those files that wont show for a browse, because searches on the WinMX Peer Networks are not global (meaning they dont encapsulate the entire network).  Text files shared with lists of files you have available would be a way for them to 'browse' files, at least they can see complete lists of files your sharing this way.

The best way to get these files found however, would be to know the HASH number that WinMX is using to identify the files.  There are tools you can get that will allow you to get the HASH number for your files and to even parse them (meaning to make a list of them all).  Adding this to a text document with your list mentioned above, users could do a search for that HASH number.  HASH searches are global to my understanding therefor you will get results better.

As for the A-P or Z-D etc.. that is simple.. when a user browses you have them click the 'File' button or bar located just above the actual list.  This changes the order to ABC or in this case to CBA.  Here are a few helpful links about the HASH searching and tools for making those hash lists.
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/hash_numbers.html   --- near the bottom mentions the MXHashish Tool.

There are lots of proggies out that will allow you to make a list of files in folders.  here is one ive used long long ago..

Hope this helps you and if not or you have any questions about it just post back..
