WinMX Peer Caches Dead
« on: September 21, 2005, 05:37:42 am »
It seems the end has come rather rapidly for our network of friends and wider community.

Recently the RIAA sent a demand to WinMX.com threatening to litigate if they did not do as the RIAA wanted, obviously as WinMX has not the resources as many of the other big P2P vendors do they have basically switched off the peer cache servers that allow folks to connect to the network.

The RiAA will no doubt claim another victory over evil file sharers, but in reality whole communities have been wiped out in the sickening lust for more revenue.

I speak on behalf of our community here and wish to make 100% clear that we shall move our communities to any network that will support it , your greed will not triumph Mr Sherman over our humanity

I,m sorry to report that at the moment no one is certain of anything  :?

Until some of the coders can maybe crack the peercache problem we are advising folks to go to Open Nap, tutorials are to be found in the open nap section,.
we will be adding a how to set up your own opennap server guide soon.

I was prepared for this so its no suprise, more of an annoyance, the phoenix will rise again I,m sure

What I suggest for those who have been unsettled from their home of the last few years is to make your plans today and switch as rooms or groups to one of the other networks, specificly Open Nap, Filetopia, Shareaza or Ares , you will find many of the thousands of winmx folks there too, good luck to you all  :(

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/opennap.html

http://www.filetopia.org/

http://shareaza.sourceforge.net/

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=112366

I hope you will take advantage of the other network clients here that have been selected for being spyware free and  in the case of ares and shareaza, open source.

Hi, I only found this site today after I was googling to find out why my winmx wasn't working!! Found this also, has anyone else seen it? http://wired-vig.wired.com/news/conflict/0,2100,47552,00.html?tw=wn_story_page_prev2

What on earth is this world coming to?!  :?

Great site by the way, lets hope winmx can come back from this, not sure how, but miracles sometimes happen!!

With the network as it is now I cant say that there is Sharing, but before you delete anything give it a few days
I know some people who are working hard on creating a miracle, and I for one wont give up hope till all others have.  :)

The spammers and porn merchants can find offshore sites so here's hoping that p2p can do the same.

Indeed, many of the users are now clustered around the rooms that are still on the network so all hope is not lost yet.

Heres the situation folks, many of us have sworn to hold out to the end and thats what will happen, but for those of you that are not technicaly inclined I do suggest a new network, if the system rises from the ashes I will be the first to welcome you back, but the battle is being led by technical folks and only they can do anything right now.

I,ll be posting any updates and rest assured that as there is news I am well placed to deliver it to you, a community like ours may be splintered but we are still conected by various means.

Take care all, anyone wishing to help with the technical side please make your way to the TSC room, please though, for the sake of us all no lurkers, helpers only are needed.

I have been a user of Winmx since the early Napster Days....Winmx was an evolution from Audiognome which was a very good alternative to Napster..I always wanted to host my own server ever since the time I saw the words “you may write this someday” as the default topic in a newly created room.   Winmx works as well for chat and file sharing using the open nap servers listed at the site    http://www.Gotnap.com   There has always been a family atmosphere in the 5 years I have been a part of some of the most successful open nap server networks ever.  I founded the Rocksolid network of servers that today still exists within the ZiggyNap network.  I have met in person and started open nap servers with people from South Korea (while teaching English)  to The Netherlands. The time effort and money I have spent on computers, ISP bandwidth and my time has been given without any reimbursement.  The community we have today on the OpenNap networks is alive and strong.  All slavanap servers have the ability to block certain key words that are in accordance with the copyright laws…why should a 1950’s Black and white film I want my kids to see and that I cant find anywhere else be blocked?   I have also shared original bagpipe music with a good friend that recently passed away on the BBB network.  Without Winmx his music and his passion would have never touched so many and so far away.    Many of the networks have been here before the advent of Winmx 2.6 and earlier versions.  We will continue to serve the Winmx community as always…….yours in the cause woody from ziggynap and Rocksolid_America_Network…peace
