Seting up SMTP for phpBB2 is a nightmare!

after getting my website up and running, i was very upset that i wss getting errors about an SMTP server (simple mail transfer protocall.. for sending e-mails)

after ttrying many smtp servers inc my ISP's serverwith no sucess,
after browseing the internet for several hours...
 i came accross this file.. its very helpfull, what it dus is it disables e-mails, so u dont get an error.. really works a treat.. for anyone that is or has been stuck.. check this out

I don't use phpBB, however when i was looking for a mailserver to run i came across hMailServer, which i've had no problems with & is both free & open src.

Thanks bearded Blunder.. im quite happy with my E-mails disabbled atm.. as its not necicary users can still registers.. (no one registering tho... lol)

Allthough i like new challenges.. when im not busy with work/college i'll give it a try

am i right in saying you have to run that server on your home computer?

It's a windows based mailserver, i suppose if your site were hosted on a windows server you might run it on that... personally i run both it & my webserver on pcs at home

wouldn't recommend trying to run a mail server for outbound mail on a home connection, inbound sure, outbound no

yes that's normally the opposite way around to what you'd think, but in reality a mail server for receiving you'd have no problems, however for sending email you will find a very large number of email providers/ISPs/etc will block you from delivering mail to them.

due to the large number of users computers that get infected with malware that is then used to send spam most companies block mail from dynamic IP Addresses, they go by the theory that you should be relaying through your ISPs mail server not sending directly, and therefore most of the stuff they get from dynamic IP Addresses is just spam so block it

+ its another vonerability on your computer system.. thats why i posted this usefull  script after i tryed for days to get a mail server that worked, and even host one myself with no success...
